A two day symposium on International Commercial Arbitration Four Seasons Hotel Beirut 15 16 April 2011 A symposium co hosted by the LCIA Arab Users Council and the DIFC LCIA Arbitration Centre and supported by the Lebanese Arbitration Centre and the CIArb Lebanon Branch

INTRODUCTION AND FORMAT An effective system of arbitration, whether pursuant to commercial contracts or investment treaties, has long been recognised as a vital element in the promotion of trade, foreign investment and, ultimately, international relations. Panels of eminent and experienced international arbitration practitioners will give brief presentations on some of the most important areas of international commercial arbitration, critical to establishing and maintaining an arbitration-friendly environment, in which the international business community may have confidence. This symposium is designed to be interactive and, following the introductory remarks, delegates are encouraged to participate in a free-flowing discussion of the issues raised and to debate topics of their own, which they will be asked to submit in advance. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Arbitrators, in-house counsel, practitioners, academics and members of the local and international business community interested in, and affected by, current developments and best practice in the field of international arbitration, particularly as it relates to the Middle East. IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND Please complete the registration form and send by email or fax to the LCIA Conferences and Membership office, conferences@lcia.org / +44 (0) 20 7936 7009. The number of places will be restricted to preserve the effectiveness of the format and early registration is therefore recommended. CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION For delegates from countries where CPD / CLE is mandatory, the LCIA will be pleased to provide a conference certificate of attendance which, subject to the exact CPD / CLE requirements, may be used to obtain accreditation in the relevant jurisdiction. This symposium qualifies for 7.5 hours (advanced level) CPD / CLE.
