Chairman s Letter Brad Arnold Chairman Dear Members: I m proud to report 2014 is shaping up as another record year for your Credit Union. Loan activity is at an all-time high, growing nearly 15% above 2013 which itself, was 13% above 2012. Business continues to grow, as does our membership. Preparing for growth is part of CEFCU s strategic long-term plan. Yet, we don t focus on growing simply for growth s sake, but rather for what that growth allows us to provide you, our member/owners better service, added value, and more benefits. In fact, studies show in 2013, CEFCU members collectively enjoyed more than $45 million in direct financial benefits. The average member household saved $291, compared to what was available elsewhere. High use households generally classified as having a CEFCU Vehicle Loan, Credit Card, Home Loan, Checking, Certificate, and Insured Money Market Account (IMMA) saved as much as $1,200 or more! Check Your Credit Report When s the last time you checked your credit report? Consumers are entitled, by law, to a free annual credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax). While checking your report only takes a few minutes, it can help you notice potential problems or errors even potential fraud or ID Theft earlier. And, by staggering your requests and using a different bureau each time, you can actually check your credit every four months. Keep in mind, the free reports contain information used to calculate your credit score (payment history, amount of debt, etc.), but not your actual score. Plus, credit bureaus compete with one another: they don t share data (except as required by law), and each maintains their own databases and processes. So your report could vary slightly between the three bureaus. Due to the personal information you must enter when you request a credit report online, the annualcreditreport.com site is often the target of phishing attacks and scammers who try to trick people. Remember these two important tips: Don t be fooled by look-alikes. Many sites say they offer free credit reports, and may have similar sounding names. Only one site www.annualcreditreport.com offers the free access to reports which is required by law. Don t reply to an unsolicited email, pop-up ad on your computer, or a phone call from someone claiming to offer free credit reports! Annualcreditreport.com and the nationwide credit reporting companies will not send you an email or call you asking for your personal information. Rollovers are a way to move those funds from one institution to another, without incurring substantial tax penalties. Currently, each IRA account can generally be rolled over once per 12-month period without penalty. However, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced that beginning in 2015, a new condition will apply to making a tax free rollover: the once-per 12-months rule will apply to each individual not just an individual IRA account.* This means that no other rollover can occur from any of the individual s other IRAs within the same 12-month period. For many investors and retirees, this is a huge change. Yet, the IRS will still allow some exceptions: Traditional IRA to Roth IRA conversions Trustee-to-Trustee transfers to another IRA Some additional exceptions, such as direct retirement plan-to-ira rollovers.
