THUNDERBIRD TIMES Septemper 2015 Dear Arrowhead Families, Welcome back to the new school year! It was wonderful seeing so many of you with your children at Meet & Greet before the year began as well as throughout these first few weeks. Research shows that strong family-school partnerships increase a student s potential for success and our goal is to have all students succeed. I am so excited about being a part of the Arrowhead community and am committed along with our teachers and staff to providing the best educational opportunities possible for students. We are all looking forward to an outstanding school year. I want to make you aware of a change this year the Cherry Creek School District will be implementing the ACT Aspire Interim assessment system to replace the NWEA MAP assessment. This change was recommended by a subcommittee of school and district administrators charged with ensuring the CCSD assessment system provided meaningful measures of achievement related to the district goal of career and college preparedness and success for our students. The ACT Aspire Interim assessment was selected because of its alignment with the college and career readiness standards and its capacity to measure student mastery of standards during the school year and across grade levels. These features provide a consistent measure of student progress from the elementary level to eventual outcomes at high school on the ACT College and Career Readiness assessment. In the fall and winter of this school year the ACT Aspire Interim Reading and Math assessments will be administered to our students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Similar to the MAP assessment, each test should take approximately 45 minutes to complete and the results, along with other performance indicators, will help teachers understand what your student has learned and help plan next steps for student and classroom instruction. I will continue to communicate important information with you regarding student assessments used in our school. For more information on the ACT Aspire assessment system and how it will be used at Arrowhead Elementary, please contact me at 720-886-2807. General information on the ACT Aspire assessment can be found here: ACT s Aspire site: http://www.discoveractaspire.org/ Assessment and Evaluation site: http://www.cherrycreekschools.org/assessmentevaluation/pages/assessments.aspx Warmly, Roberta Ballard Principal
