Supervisrs are paid $120 fr each bservatin, with a maximum f 5 bservatins per student teacher each semester. While the number f required visits varies by prgram, the Teacher Educatin Plicy Cmmittee at TC recmmends that each student teacher be bserved a minimum f 3 times per student teaching experience. 2. Yur prgram s student teaching crdinatr has been asked t share yur anticipated number f Fall 2018 bservatins with the Office f Teacher Educatin. Payment fr half f yur anticipated fall earnings will be distributed via yur semi-mnthly paychecks. Payment fr the ther half f yur earnings will be issued at the end f the semester, after the Office f Teacher Educatin receives yur List f Visits frm. The disbursement f the first paycheck will vary, depending n when OTE received yur anticipated bservatin infrmatin as well as the payrll schedule. We strngly recmmend that yu enrll in direct depsit, fr ease f payments. 3. Supervisr travel csts will be reimbursed up t $50 per student per term fr travel t and frm the schl sites. T be reimbursed fr travel, supervisrs must uplad infrmatin t Chrme River and include dcumentatin and receipts. Please nte that whenever pssible, supervisrs are expected t take public transprtatin. In cases where supervisrs must drive, EZ Pass Statements must be upladed t Chrme River. 4. TC des nt pay fr parking, taxi, car services, r Mnthly MetrCards. 5. Supervisrs requesting an exceptin fr any f the abve items must send an email t te@tc.edu. OTE will then cnsider the request.

Belw are sme suggestins, guidelines and basic prcedural infrmatin that we trust will supprt the imprtant wrk yu d with ur students. Elements f an bservatin While TC des nt necessarily subscribe t a particular mdel f supervisin, an bservatin shuld cnstitute: A pre-bservatin cnference t discuss the student teacher s lessn plan and any ther details pertaining t the lessn. This discussin culd take place at the schl site r ver the phne ne r tw days befrehand. The bservatin f an actual lessn r teaching episde/interactin where the student teacher is actively engaged with learners. Yur bservatin shuld last the entire perid s yu are able t gather assessment data frm lessn initiatin t clsure. A pst-bservatin discussin shuld fllw the lessn. This meeting gives yu and yur student teacher the pprtunity t review, reflect upn, and assess the lessn tgether. Thrugh the use f careful questining, yu can help student teachers think abut what they did and why, the decisins and pedaggical chices they made, and the cnsequences f their instructin n students understanding. Again, this discussin culd take place at the schl site (if cnvenient), at TC, r ver the phne. Sequential bservatins f tw lessns shuld nt be cunted as tw visits. While unusual circumstances may ccasinally (and very rarely) require back-t-back bservatins that are then cunted as separate visits, this practice is strngly discuraged because it des nt meet the spirit and substance f bservatin requirements, and denies student teachers the nging supprt they require ver time. The imprtance f bserving ver time Assessing student teacher grwth and develpment requires that bservatins are regularly scheduled ver the curse f the semester r student teaching experience. Clustering bservatins at the beginning r end (r any time) shrt changes student teachers because they d nt receive the valuable feedback that builds gradually in respnse t their develpment. The number f bservatins required by each prgram may vary, s please check with the prgram with which yu are wrking. Hwever, the Teacher Educatin Plicy Cmmittee at Teachers Cllege and the Office f Teacher Educatin strngly and unanimusly recmmend a minimum f 3 bservatins. This means, that at the very least, a student teacher shuld expect t be bserved nce earlier in the experience, nce in the middle f the experience, and nce twards the clse f the experience.
