Missin Statement "The name f this rganizatin is Supprt fr Incming Black Students, thereafter referred t as S.I.B.S Supprt fr Incming Black Students (S.I.B.S) is a year-lng student crdinated peer mentrship prgram that is pen t all students at the University f Michigan wh are interested in issues that affect the black cmmunity and wh are dedicated t the retentin and success f the students in the prgram. SIBS gal is t prvide unique mentrship and educatinal pprtunities fr students n the University f Michigan campus. This includes persnal, academic, and prfessinal develpment pprtunities that create a fulfilling first- year experience and that enhances cmmunity members awareness f their experiences n Uf M campus Article II. Prgram Visin S.I.B.S. is a widely respected year-lng student run prgram that sustainably engages Black first year students. We wrk t prvide a successful scial and academic experience thrugh mentrship and prgramming. This is accmplished by: Prviding year-rund recgnitin fr big/little SIBS Prviding valuable leadership training and prfessinal develpment pprtunities Planning well rganized and impactful events Building relatinships thrugh year rund cnnectins between big/little SIBS Creating pprtunities fr students t advance int leadership psitins Maintaining SIBS alumni invlvement, engagement, and investment in SIBS Assessing the effectiveness and impact f the S.I.B.S. prgrams Article III. Membership Supprt fr Incmming Black Students (S.I.B.S) is cmmitted t a plicy f equal pprtunity fr all persns and des nt discriminate n the basis f race, clr, natinal rigin, age, marital status, sex, sexual rientatin, gender identity, gender expressin, disability, religin, height, weight, r veteran status in its membership r activities unless permitted by university plicy fr gender specific rganizatins. Upn jining the rganizatin, all members agree nt t undermine the purpse r missin f [S.I.B.S].
Active membership shall cnsist f student crdinatrs (Cre members), students willingly ffering their guidance and insight (Big SIBS), and pen-minded students wh are willing t accept a persnal mentr (Little SIB). Entrance int the SIBS prgram shall require interested parties t thrughly and genuinely fill ut the respective nline applicatin fr the psitin they are seeking. These applicatins will be sent ut via email and will be pen t all university students. All applicatins are reviewed by the current Cre members and MESA advisrs. After applicatins are submitted and reviewed, an in persn r ver the phne interview may be asked f fr interested parties. Bth the applicatin and interview will be judged t determine if the interested parties exhibit what the SIBS prgram strives t attain. The entire membership prcess will be cmpleted withut bias and nly with the success f the prgram in mind. A member wh in any way, shape, r frm jepardizes the integrity f the SIBS prgram, vilates university plicy, partakes in criminal activity, r desn t adhere t the guidelines set frth by the Office f Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA), will be asked t remve themselves frm the prgram. Such measures will be at the discretin f the Cre and MESA, and will be preceded by fair but stern discussin f all relevant infrmatin regarding the situatin. Article IV. Duties and Expectatins Internal Chair Maintains and archives all necessary and imprtant dcuments vital t S.I.B.S. Creates agendas fr weekly meetings Facilitates weekly meetings Recrds weekly meeting minutes Sends relevant infrmatin (Emails) t the S.I.B.S. Statement f Cmpliance By cmpleting the applicatin prcess and accepting a psitin within the SIBS prgram, all members agree t abide by the rules and regulatins set frth in this dcument and understand that cntinued membership is cntingent n the acceptance f these plicies.
Article VI: Operatins Sectin 1. Vting Eligibility: Thse members meeting all requirements f active membership as set frth in Article IV, Sectin 1 will be granted vting privileges. Sectin 2: Electin prcess: All fficers shall be elected by a majrity vte f the eligible vting members 0f SIBS cre. All electins will be held n an annual basis during the mnth f March/April. Incming fficers will assume their psitins ne mnth after electins are held. The utging President will take nminatins frm the flr, the nminatin prce must be clser and the mvement secnded. The nminated parties will be allwed t vte. All vting shall be dne by secret ballt t be cllected and tabulated by t utging Secretary-Treasurer and ne ther vting member f SIBS Cre, appinted by the utging President. If the utging Secretary-Treasurer is a nminee fr anther psitin, he/she shuld recuse themselves f tallying ballts and appint anther fficer t take his/her place. Article VII: Remval f Membership r Officers Sectin 1: Remval f Officers Any fficer f S.I.B.S in vilatin f S.I.B.S purpse, cnstitutin, r wh fails t fulfill their respnsibilities as utlined in Article V, may be remved frm ffice by the fllwing prcess: A written request by at least three members f the Cre Written ntificatin t the fficer f the request, asking the fficer t be present at the next meeting and prepared t speak. A tw-thirds (2/3) majrity vte f eligible vting members is necessary t remve the fficer.
Sectin 2: Remval f Membership Any member f CCI in vilatin f CCI s purpse, cnstitutin, r wh fails t meet the membership requirements as utlined in Article IV, may have their privileges as a member revked thrugh the fllwing prcess: A written request by at least three members f the rganizatin must be sent the executive cmmittee. Written ntificatin t the member in questin, asking the member t be present the next executive cmmittee meeting and prepared t speak. A unanimus decisin by the executive cmmittee members, in cnsultatin wi the advisr, t remve the member frm the rganizatin. Article VIII: Ratificatin This cnstitutin must be ratified by tw-thirds f all active members t take effect and shall be reviewed every 3 years. Article IX: Amendments This cnstitutin is binding t all members f S.I.B.S but it is nt binding unt itself. Amendments t the cnstitutin may be prpsed in writing by any vting member f S.I.B.S at any meeting at which qurum is met. The amendments will be placed n the agenda fr the next regular meeting and vted n at that time. Sectin 2: Prpsed amendments will becme immediately effective fllwing apprval f tw-thirds (2/3) vte f all active members.
