2011 US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) has features in place to defend against the 1-percent-annualchance storm surge FEMA is working with the USACE to receive the analysis performed to date on the levee system in the Greater New Orleans area FEMA has received written documentation about the levee system from the USACE in the near future Project History

FEMA is updating the flood hazard information in the areas of the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS) Revision of area immediately adjacent to the HSDRRS levee system Description of Update Effort

Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS) walls in place to keep waves out interior drainage not completed

FEMA will receive Interior Drainage Analysis from USACE for Federal Project Area only Analysis includes only features of the HSDRRS shown on the Accreditation Map New Orleans East Polder Description of Update Effort

New Orleans Metro Ninth Ward Orleans West Bank Description of Update Effort

FEMA will update the analysis within the system and provide local authorities better risk information for use in decision making. Updated DFIRMs will help local business owners and residents to understand their current flood risk and enable them to make more informed decisions about protecting themselves against that risk. Updated DFIRMs will aid communities and state officials in the grant application and review process. Project Benefits

Post Preliminary (Parish Wide) HSDRRS Perimeter Construction Announcement Revise Preliminary DFIRMs (HSDRRS) Appeal & Protest Period Levee System Evaluation Review Letter of Final Determination & Effective DFIRM Issuance September 2011 Spring 2012 Summer/Fall 2012 Fall 2014 Project Schedule

Once HSDRRS area maps are updated: the revised DFIRMs will be delivered to the parish communities for review the entire parish study will then enter the post-preliminary processing phase residents, business owners and communities will be allowed to view the DFIRM data through an interactive map viewer on-line Project Schedule

Local Drainage Projects may not be included in the analysis delivered by the USACE Review the USACE Accreditation Map to identify projects that are not included in the current analysis Provide your data to FEMA as soon as possible for incorporation FEMA looks to partner with your technical staff to ensure the most up-to-date information is included in the DFIRM panels for your community How You Can Help
