July 11 R E G U L A T O R Y C H A N G E S Initiated by SEBI Shareholding of promoter / promoter group to be in dematerialized mode In order to further promote dematerialization of securities, to encourage orderly development of the securities market and to improve transparency in the dealings of shares by promoters including pledge / usage as collateral, SEBI in consultation with Stock Exchanges, has issued a circular on trading rules and shareholding in dematerialized mode and decided that the securities of companies shall be traded in the normal segment of the exchange if and only if, the company has achieved 1% of promoters and promoter group's shareholding in dematerialized form latest by the quarter ended September 11 as reported to the stock exchanges. In all cases, wherein the companies do not satisfy the above criteria, the trading in securities of such companies shall take place in trade for trade segment. Initiated by RBI Mid-Quarter Monetary Policy Review: June 11 On the basis of the current macroeconomic assessment in Mid-Quarter Monetary Policy Review, RBI has decided to: increase the repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) by 5 basis points from 7.5 per cent to 7.5 per cent with immediate effect Consequent to the above increase in the repo rate, the reverse repo rate under the LAF will stand automatically adjusted to 6.5 per cent with immediate effect. RBI to put the data on Overseas Direct Investment in the public domain The RBI has decided to put on its website on a monthly basis from July 11 onwards the outflows on account of Overseas Direct Investment by Indian Companies / Parties. I N T E R N A T I O N A L N E W S SGX Securities Market trades all day from 1 August Singapore Exchange's (SGX) securities market will trade continuously all day from 1 August. Market hours will therefore overlap more with those of other Asian exchanges, enabling investors trading pan-asian securities to respond to regional market movements and news flow. Investors will also face less risk as they will be able to manage their open positions in the securities market non-stop between 9.am and 5.pm Singapore time. SGX's derivatives market already trades continuously. Tehran Stock Exchange to launch options market The Johannesburg Stock Exchange lists first 'can-do' currency options In a move to offer currency traders greater choice and flexibility, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and Absa Capital have listed the first exotic style currency options contracts. The two new options are based on the dollar/rand exchange rate and are Knock-Out Barrier Options Up-and-Out and Down-and-Out. A Knock-Out Barrier Option is a type of option with a built-in mechanism to expire worthless should a specified price level be exceeded. The up and out variation has a barrier level above the current spot price and the spot price has to move up for the option to be knocked out. The down and out variation has a barrier level is below the spot price and the spot price has to move down for the option to become null and void. If the barrier level is not breached during the life of the option, the investor has the right to exercise their European call or put option at the exercise price specified in the contract.
