Intermediary Disclosure Document Legislation regarding disclosures by intermediaries and insurers, in the form of the Policyholder Protection Rules, came into effect as from 1 July 2001. As your independent intermediary, we at Safari and Tourism Insurance Brokers believe in protecting the rights of our policyholders and we therefore comply with the Rules. The Rules require certain disclosures, which must be made when an intermediary or insurer enters into a policy agreement with a client. These disclosures enable a policyholder to make informed decisions regarding short term insurance products and ensure that all parties involved conduct business fairly. You must notify Safari and Tourism Insurance Brokers immediately you become aware of any impending prosecution. In the event of a claim you may become responsible for a first amount payable or deductible in respect of such claim. Details of any such responsibility are shown in the policy and the amount is shown in the policy schedule. 5. Fees and commission payable: The amount of any fees and commission earned by the intermediary are stated in the policy schedule. ABOUT THE INSURER 1. Details of how to institute a claim and/ or complaint: See point 4 above. If any complaint to an intermediary of insurer is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may submit the complaint to the Registrar of Short-Term Insurance. 3. Type of policy involved: Refer to the policy schedule. 4. Extent of premium obligations you assume as policyholder: You agreed to pay the premium. Details of the premium due and the frequency of payment are contained in the policy schedule 5. Manner of payment of premium, due date of premiums and consequences of non-payment: The manner of premium payment and due date of premiums is reflected in the policy schedule. You will be entitled to a period of 15 (fifteen) days from the premium due date in which to pay your premium. If you do not pay the premium within 15 days of the due date cover will be cancelled from midnight on the day before the due date. Where the premium is payable monthly this 15 day extension only applies from the second month after your policy is issued. However in respect of a monthly policy if the premium is not paid on the date that it was due to be paid as a result of payment having been stopped by you cover will be cancelled from midnight on the day before the due date. 6. Other matters of importance a) You must be informed of any material changes to the information referred to in paragraph 1 and 2. b) If the information in paragraphs 1 and 2 was given orally, it must be confirmed in writing within 30 days. c) If any complaint to the intermediary or insurer is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may submit the complaint to the Registrar of Short-term Insurance. d) Polygraph or any lie detector test is not obligatory in the event of a claim and the failure thereof may not be the sole reason for repudiating a claim. e) If premium is paid by debit order: i) it may only be in favour of one person and may not be transferred without your approval; and ii) the insurer must inform you at least 30 days before the cancellation thereof, in writing, of its intention to cancel such debit order iii) The insurer and not the intermediary must give reasons for repudiating your claim. iv) Your insurer may not cancel your insurance merely by informing your intermediary.
