7 MUNICIPALITY OF MT. LEBANON PROPOSED HOME RULE CHARTER AMENDMENT SPECIAL ELECTION QUESTION Shall Section 914. Tax Rates, of the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon Home Rule Charter be amended to provide that any increase in yearly real estate taxes levied by the Mt. Lebanon Commission shall not exceed 10% of the previous year s total General Fund budgeted revenue, unless approved by referendum or by unanimous vote of the Mt. Lebanon Commission, as more fully described in Mt. Lebanon Ordinance No. 3285? Explanation of Ballot Question If this question is approved by a majority of those voting, the Mt. Lebanon Home Rule Charter will be changed to place a 10% limit (estimated to be $3,5000,000 a year) on real estate tax increases, unless otherwise approved by the voters in a referendum or by unanimous vote of the Mt. Lebanon Board of Commissioners. Currently, the Charter contains a 2 mill limit (estimated to be $5,000,000 a year) on real estate tax increases. If approved, this amendment will take effect upon certification of the May 16, 2017 Primary Election results.
