2 INTRODUCTION The succession of GCC businesses has never been so in focus Family businesses are the cornerstone of the GCC economies. With substantial wealth in the process of passing to a new generation, legacy planning and good governance have never been more relevant topics for both local and long term expat families. But which tools and techniques will help them? International solutions often have limited appeal to GCC families for key assets such as regional operating businesses and real estate, either for legal or cultural reasons. Various parts of the world have developed their own solutions or adapted foreign ones to their specific needs, but the GCC has been later in looking at this, in no small part as many businesses are only now approaching their first intergenerational transfer. Increasingly more flexible and sophisticated types of corporate and legacy planning tools are being introduced by the various regional financial centres. And more is to come particularly at the UAE domestic level. The objective of this conference is to provide delegates with the latest regional legacy planning developments and practical examples from leading industry experts, as well as a taste of the potential solutions under consideration. KEYNOTE SPEAKER Tariq Bin Hendi Tariq Bin Hendi is the Executive Vice President and Head of Products & Advisory, Retail Banking & Wealth Management at Emirates NBD Group. Tariq previously served as the CEO of Emirates NBD Asset Management and in an acting-cio role for Emirates NBD. He has over 18 years of experience, with a primary focus on asset management, private equity and investment banking. Prior to his current role, Tariq held various roles at Commercial Bank of Dubai, Mubadala, Citigroup, Dubai Holding, Delta Airlines and UPS. He holds a PhD in Economics from Imperial College London (UK) as well as graduate degrees from Columbia University (USA) and London Business School (UK), and an undergraduate degree from Clayton State (USA)
