welcome to NAViGO Dear reader If you re looking at this then I imagine you are considering working for us and perhaps wondering what that might mean. Well our organisation is all about the people it cares for and supports, which of course means its staff too are of vital importance. We want you to care about and be proud of the organisation (which if you want you can be a part owner of as a staff member). We want you to feel you can do the job of really changing things for vulnerable people in our care and get past the unproductive bits of history and lack of inventiveness. NAViGO is a public service, not for profit and for the good of the community. We put people who use the service first and in doing so hopefully liberate you to do the job you want to do and have fun while doing it, developing relationships with the local community that are all about care. We want to cut the bureaucracy, the nonsense, the waste and the obstacles to give really excellent care that people want. We want to be (and often are already) a valued part of the community, offering services that we would be happy for our own families to receive should they need them. If you want that too and are prepared to also give what it takes to offer really good services, then why not join us? Feel free to give any of us a call if you want to know more, and I look forward to meeting you soon. Kevin Bond Chief executive
who are NAViGO? we re moving forward In April 2011, North East Lincolnshire mental health services became a not-for-profit social enterprise called NAViGO. It was not a decision we took lightly or quickly, but one we took willingly and carefully. We took two years to understand and talk through the opportunities with staff, service users and the NHS commissioners who buy our services. Most people who use our services will continue to access them through the NHS. NAViGO is about continuing to provide the mental health and social care services that the people of North East Lincolnshire have come to expect: innovative services in a variety of settings, including people s homes, GP practices and community-based buildings. We will continue to work hard with our community to not only provide dynamic, innovative services, but to also break down the stigma and discrimination that is sometimes associated with mental health illnesses. we re working with a wide range of people In recent years, our professionals have been setting a leading example with services, several of which have attracted national acclaim and won awards for quality and innovation. Many of these services go beyond mental health into a variety of care settings, working with a wide range of people: including people with learning disabilities, people with employment issues, young people striving to get a foothold in life and people who are simply adapting to life as older people. NAViGO continues a tradition of a healthcare organisation based on people with powerful values rooted in commitment to our service users. These values will continue to inform and guide the work of our organisation as a social enterprise. We seek to provide services in partnership with the people who know our services best: our service users and staff. we re part of our community We believe that being a social enterprise will help us improve the healthcare services that are already available locally to the people of North East Lincolnshire. We believe that an organisation owned and directed by its staff and service users will make sensible decisions. We can only carry out the wishes of the community if people in the community help by becoming members and letting us know exactly what they want. We are only interested in delivering services that we would be happy for our own families to use. This social enterprise is about working together with local people to create services that are owned by the community, controlled by it, supported by it, loyal to it.
be part of award winning services Here at NAViGO, we have an excellent and proven track record in turning values and ethics around mental health and social care into services that transform lives. We are only interested in providing services that we would be happy for our own family to use. We are incredibly proud of our services and our achievements: overall winner: The Guardian Public Service Awards 2011 Winner: Service Delivery (Complex Needs), The Guardian Public Service Awards 2011 Tukes must be one of the most imaginative and inspirational ideas in our public services. Involving people in the service they are using gives them a truly meaningful stake in it and in this case helps set them firmly on the road to recovery. David Brindle Public services editor, The Guardian winner: Best Public Sector Employee-Led Mutual Organisation Award, Philip Baxendale Awards 2011 The Public Sector Employee-Led Mutual Organisation (ELMO) Award was awarded to NAViGO as the most impressive group of employees to have spun out of the public sector into an ELMO, showing progress in transforming the service to improve outcomes for their users. The award focuses specifically on the way in which Tukes, (part of NAViGO which provides training, skills development and work experience in real working environments for people who are socially excluded due to mental health problems), run all of the ancillary services for NAViGO CIC including catering, cleaning, portering, estates and horticulture as well as cafes on Brighowgate and the top town market and services to other companies. winner: Employee Ownership Rising Star Award, Philip Baxendale Awards 2011 The Employee Ownership Rising Star Award celebrates the impact of an organisation that has recently become employee owned and is already showing progress in creating a highly effective organisation with a strong culture of meaningful employee ownership. other awards / recognition Excellent AIMS accreditation (Royal College of Psychiatrists) Winner: Best Community Development, Harrison House, Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards Winner: Mental Health and Wellbeing Award, National Health and Social Care Awards Runner up: Acorn Primary Care National Awards Open Minds ranked among top in the country in two of top five scores including user rated recovery scores.
NAViGO family lease car scheme NAViGO offers all permanent members of staff the opportunity to participate in a family lease car scheme NHS Fleet Solutions has been specifically designed to provide NAViGO employees the opportunity to lease a car at a very attractive price, using the benefits of a salary sacrifice scheme. Under the scheme, you normally lease a car for a period of three years. There is no deposit and costs are fixed for all elements for the duration of the lease. The car will be insured for yourself and up to four named drivers. example Competitive prices No deposit needed Full maintenance included (all routine servicing and repairs, tyres and breakdown cover) Fully comprehensive insurance (for you and up to four additional named drivers) Trouble free budgeting (salary sacrifice fixed for full term of the lease) An employee selects a Fiat pop 3dr (start stop) 8,000 miles per annum The employee s current salary is 16,000 and they are a member of the NHS pension scheme. They will be required to make an annual salary sacrifice of 3, ( per month) but will save per month in NIC, pension contributions and income tax. The example below illustrates that were the employee to fund the cost of the car from net pay, the monthly costs would be This example includes the lease of the car, road tax, fully comprehensive insurance, breakdown cover and all normal servicing and maintenance costs. With salary sacrifice Annual Costs (salary sacrifice per annum) 3, Monthly Cost (salary sacrifice per month) Reduction in NIC (per month) ( 24.86) Reduction in tax (per month) ( 50.24) Reduction in superann (per month) ( 13.22) Total reduction (per month) ( 88.32) Reduction in net salary (per month) Tax on benefit in kind (per month) Total overall net monthly costs For more information please visit: Without salary sacrifice (ie under salary deduction) The equivalent cost for the same company car by net salary deduction would be The employee therefore saves around 140 per month through salary sacrifice. (ie ) The figures in the above example may be slightly different if you are a member of the Pension Trust scheme.
The Pensions Trust Retirement might seem like a long time away. Or it might just be round the corner. Either way you need to think about it now to make sure you have saved enough to live comfortably. Saving for a pension is a really great way to achieve this. Membership of the Pension Trust Scheme is open to all new NAViGO staff. NAViGO will contribute x per cent of your salary to this scheme. The Pension Trust Scheme is a defined contribution pension scheme and invests the contributions from both you and NAViGO over the period of your membership in the scheme. You would be required to contribute a minimum of 5 per cent of your salary which will be match by an 11 per cent contribution by NAViGO. The final amount of pension you receive at retirement will depend on: benefits The level of contributions paid in How well the investments have performed What it costs to secure a pension when you retire You may choose to receive your pension at any time from age 55 (or earlier on the grounds of illhealth) You can opt to take tax free cash lump sum when you retire You may opt on whether or not benefits are payable after your death Option to purchase an improved annuity if you have to retire early due to health reasons it might cost less than you think... Your contributions to your pension also receive tax relief. This means it might cost less than you think. Add this to the extra that NAViGO pays and you will be getting a whole lot of savings for only a small cost. retirement You can use the pension modeller on The Pensions Trust website to get an idea of the amount of pension your savings might buy you at retirement. There is also a budget calculator which you can use to help you calculate your income and expenditure in retirement. For a pension calculator, comprehensive further information and videos relating to the scheme, please visit the Pension Trust website: It s never too soon to start saving for your future. The sooner you start, the better chance you have of saving more and your savings growing to provide you with a higher income in retirement.
childcare vouchers Childcare vouchers from Computershare Voucher Services are an employee benefit available to all eligible working parents at NAViGO. They are non-taxable and exempt from national insurance. Childcare vouchers are the recognised payment method for registered carers. All eligible working parents with children up to 16 years old can benefit. Childcare vouchers benefit all taxpayers and offer savings of up to 1,866 a family, a year. Childcare vouchers are not just for under 5s - they can be used to pay for all types of registered childcare, including day nurseries, nannies, au pairs, crèches, childminders, out of school clubs, holiday schemes, activity clubs and qualifying childcare offered by schools. Eligible working parents at NAViGO can exchange up to 243* a month ( 55 a week) of their gross salary for childcare vouchers. The exchanged part of the salary is exempt from tax and national insurance contributions. This allows parents to make savings of up to 933** a parent, a year on their registered childcare costs. *For parents joining a scheme from 6 April 2011, the Government has capped the amount of childcare vouchers a tax-payer can request each month to 243 for a basic rate tax-payer, 124 for a higher rate tax-payer and 97 for an additional rate tax-payer. Parents who joined their employers childcare voucher scheme before 6 April 2011 can continue to request up to 243 a month ( 55 a week) in childcare vouchers, regardless of their tax status, providing they remain in their employers scheme (i.e. they have received a childcare voucher in the last rolling 12 month period). **Figures quoted are the maximum available savings for a basic rate tax-payer. Higher and additional rate tax-payers may save around 600 a year. The savings you make will depend on your circumstances. For more information please visit:
NAViGO membership As a Community Interest Company, naturally we have a membership that guides the organisation and has a say in key decisions as you would expect. However, NAViGO is truly unique in that our membership is made up of not just staff, but community members as well. Anyone who is a service user, carer or has an interest in the services we provide is able to join our community membership which has exactly the same right as our staff. We now have a thriving membership of over 500 members, made up of both staff and community. Our pedigree has always been one of involvement and our change to an employee owned organisation simply enshrines that approach and furthers it. The service belongs to us all and the Articles (the document that sets out the rules of how we run) now ensure we all have a clear say within it. The membership has representation at all levels of our organisation. Four staff and four community representatives sit on the Membership Board which conducts the day-to-day business of NAViGO. Of these eight, two also sit on the main CIC Board as non-executive directors. This Board carries the final responsibility for the running of NAViGO. The membership representatives act as the voice of the staff and community members, ensuring their views and opinions are heard throughout our services. Our membership also has the opportunity to vote off our chief executive periodically as this position has been made electable in our Articles. This shows our continued commitment to our membership; our chief executive, Kevin Bond, stakes his job on it. NAViGO membership also comes with other benefits including a number of locally sourced discounts available on production of your membership card.
