First AoC Book, not bad :P By TheAoCPlayer There were many factors that went through my mind in how to review this book. The levels of players that would be reading it, the content, the layout/explanations.. *ratings for AoC mentioned below are based on voobly.com* Without revealing too much about the book... The critiques: -Paragraphs can sometimes get to be extremely long and jump between concepts enough to have to reread again to get all major points out. -In rare spots, data is missing that may leave some readers asking "why?" or "how?" (this could be for a sequel more in depth book though) -The flow from the beginning to middle can be off at times. Going from basic talk to more expert thinking, which newer players may find confusing. -Repetitive in places, especially in the Build Orders sections. Could have cut the book down 20+ pages at least. -In the Build Order section, specified up times are only given for 25% the strats. -Readers who only know basic english may have trouble with some terms, HodgePodge, Mitigation and Disproportionately to name a few. -No pictures, some "text drawing" which are well done, but don't give a break from constant reading like a visual picture does. -"if you are an experienced player skip this chapter" is referenced a few times. What is an "experienced player"? IMO,

7 Positives: -Has enough facts/numbers included in most examples to help back up his thinking. (very detailed in facts near the end of the book) -Explains cost effective fights in a variety of situations -Lays a lot of thinking foundation in the strategies to use depending on the layout of the map -At least 100 tips throughout the book. Most are basic, but some vary to advanced level. -Everything is explained in great detail(especially dark/feudal age wars) Missing Sections: -Chris continually talks about "the old times" and an introduction or epilogue on his AoC career would have been a nice addition.(especially for his fans) -A terminology section for AoC terms -Some links to his games for examples of what he talks about with strategy(via twitch.tv or aoczone.net) Conclusion: All in all, it is well done. Half of the book speaks about information towards Anyone around the rating(or lower) who has been playing awhile and are looking to improve would benefit most from this book. 122 pages can be tiring at times, but as the nuggets he mentions, you must dig for the gold! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great Book! Great Resource for Improving Your Game By derfootmarcus I just finished reading and I really enjoyed it! Chris goes through the game age by age explaining all of the upgrades and their cost effectiveness as well as every unit and building. This book will be extremely useful to me and am really excited to study it while playing to improve my game. The info about when to get the upgrades as well as the detailed information regarding build orders and the cost-effectiveness of certain fights is also very useful. The book is laid out in a way that is very easy to follow, and all of the explanations are clear and concise. I am extremely excited for the other 2 books Chris mentioned and am extremely glad that I bought this book.
