1 Introducing your new GE pay summary As part of the payroll and benefits transition for former Alstom employees to GE payroll effective January 1, 2016, this newsletter offers you important information about your pay. When will my new paycheck be available? Your first paycheck will be available on January 15, All future paychecks will be available Friday except when a Federal reserve holiday falls on a Friday. Your final Alstom paycheck will be dated December 31, 2015, representing estimated pay through December 31, 2015 Your paycheck will be distributed as follows: If you elected direct deposit through JoinGE.com, your paycheck issued by GE will be direct deposited to your account. If you did not elect direct deposit through JoinGE, your live paycheck will be mailed to your work address that is on file with GE. Other pay adjustments including overtime, if eligible, and absences will always be paid two weeks in arrears. Existing Alstom 401K loans will continue to be paid back through GE payroll deductions starting with the January 15, 2016 check. Alstom banked vacation days will transition to GE in January and be available in February. What will be in my new paycheck? The GE workweek is Monday through Sunday, and your pay period is bi-weekly. Your paycheck will include the following, if applicable and as elected: Regular pay for January 1 through January 17; Medical coverage deductions; Vision Premium Option deductions; Dental Premium Option deductions; Life Insurance deductions; Long Term Disability Income Plan deductions; Flexible Spending Account contributions for Health Care and/or Dependent Care; Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions; Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) deductions; and Other miscellaneous deductions that may apply (such as court ordered deductions). CONTENTS p. 1 Introducing your new pay summary and benefits administrator p. 2 Pay summary key p. 3 Pay summary sample p. 4 Direct deposit and medical coverage p. 5 Pay FAQ p. 6 OneHR.ge.com QUESTIONS on your new paycheck can be answered by calling the GE Payroll Center at , Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern time, or visit OneHR.ge.com to learn more. Payday News is intended strictly as an informational guide to help you understand your new pay processes and paychecks. Page 1
2 Pay summary key: Below are the items that you will find on your new pay summary. Many will be familiar, as they are the same items on your former pay summary. Use these items to navigate the pay summary sample on page 3. If you have any questions about the specific items and amounts, contact your local HR representative or the GE Payroll Center at , Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern time. 1 Payroll address 2 Internal codes used by Payroll 3 Employee single sign on (SSO) ID, in most cases, will display in this section. You will also find your Pay Rate and Night Shift Bonus information, if eligible. 4 Federal tax data itemizes your Form W-4 federal withholding election information. 5 Current period payments include all earnings associated with actual hours worked in the current pay period. 6 Prior period payments include earnings or adjustments for prior periods. The summary will reflect the way in which the system has backed out old earnings and then replaced them with updated earnings for that period based on the new information. 9 Before tax and after tax deductions include your benefit and general deductions and are grouped together to display current and year-to-date information. 10 Taxes are listed in the same column as all other deductions along with current and year-to-date information to give you a snapshot of your total deductions. If you request additional tax withholding, the combined total will be listed as one line item. 11 Summary of Current and YTD (year-to-date) information includes an organized summary of various totals, including gross, deductions, and net pay. 12 For all eligible employees, Leave Information will display the total personal illness, personal business, and vacation days available for the year. 13 Pay distribution summarizes the amount of your net pay for this period, including any deposits made. 7 Current other payments include all earnings that add to your gross pay, but are not directly related to time worked, such as personal business. 8 Other income, income includes all payments that don t add to your gross amount for this pay period. Imputed income or taxable in-kind benefit is included in your taxable amount to ensure that the correct taxes are withheld. An example of such a taxable in-kind benefit is employer-paid group term life insurance coverage in excess of $50,000. NOTE: Some amounts, such as taxes and withholdings, will vary from pay period to pay period. Page 2
3 Pay summary sample: Your pay summary details all payments and deductions in each pay period. This diagram illustrates a sample Pay Summary. Please note that deduction descriptions may be different for your Business. The pay summary key on page 2 explains each numbered item below Page 3
4 Direct deposit and medical coverage Direct deposit Safe, convenient, and fast! Using direct deposit is the most convenient, timely, and secure way to receive your pay. With direct deposit, you do not run the risk of losing a paycheck or worry about delays in delivery. You can set up multiple direct deposit accounts and easily modify your direct deposit account(s) by visiting OneHR.ge.com on or after January 1, 2016 and selecting Direct Deposit under the Payroll option, or you can call the GE Payroll Center at As a direct deposit participant, you are encouraged to take advantage of the online pay summary. Note: Salaried exempt employees are required to receive their pay summaries via e-delivery. However, if you reside in the sates of CA, CO, DE, HI, MI, MN, or OR, you may request a paper pay summary. Paper pay summaries and live paychecks will be mailed to the work address reflected in the GE Payroll system. Advantages of direct deposit: Your pay is available quicker with direct deposit! You will typically be able to access your funds up to 24 hours before you would normally receive a paper check. You can split your deposit into multiple accounts and specify a dollar amount you would like deposited into each bank account. Remember: electronic transfer of funds is more secure than a paper check. With direct deposit, you do not run the risk of losing your paycheck or experiencing delays in delivery. Enroll in direct deposit today! Your benefits effective date is January 1, Medical coverage Medical and drug ID cards and FSA/HSA debit cards: Medical ID cards will be mailed to your home directly from the insurance administrator or bank, not GE. The GE logo will not appear on the envelope. Be sure to use your new medical and prescription drug ID cards for all expenses incurred on or after your benefits transition date of January 1, Medical services prior to receiving medical and drug ID cards: Use your Benefits Summary from JoinGE.com. If you haven t received your medical ID card, and you need care after January 1, 2016, present your summary as proof of insurance. For many vendors, you can also link to the vendor s Web site from OneHR.ge.com after January 1, 2016 to print a card. If your provider does not have your plan information, you may be required to pay a portion or the full cost of the care. Submit claims for reimbursement of eligible medical expenses that occur on or after January 1, 2016 using the claim forms on OneHR.ge.com. In the event of a medical emergency: If the hospital requires proof of medical insurance, call the GE Benefits Center. If you are not yet enrolled in benefits: You have 63 days after your benefits effective date to enroll for benefits. Call the GE Benefits Center at If you do not enroll, you will automatically be enrolled in default coverage. The Benefits Safety Net elections will happen on the 64th day after your benefits effective date. Applicable contributions will be deducted from your pay. Default medical coverage GE Health Choice Option 1 (includes vision basic) at the Three or More coverage level. The coverage is effective as of the date you become eligible. Deductions will be taken retroactive to your benefits effective date. Default vision coverage GE Vision Basic Option at the employee plus dependent level. Default dental coverage GE Dental Schedule Option at the employee plus dependent level. Default Long Term Disability Income Plan (LTDI) GE Dental Schedule Option at the employee plus dependent level. 5 Frequently asked questions Q1: What time will appear on my paycheck stub? A1: Time is broken down into two parts: regular time and overtime. Regular time accounts for the time worked before overtime. Overtime will display as the actual hours worked at the calculated overtime rate. If you are paid any shift pay or premium rates, it will be reflected as part of your regular, overtime, or other earnings. Each of these payments may be different from your prior payroll system due to rounding. For example, an employee makes $12.00 an hour and works 45 hours. 40 hours are regular and 5 hours are paid at time and a half. Regular 40 hrs. at $12.00 Overtime 5 hrs. at $18.00 Q2: What is imputed income? A2: Current tax law requires you to pay income taxes on certain benefits, such as the value of employer-paid life insurance coverage over $50,000. This value is referred to as imputed income and is reported as taxable income to you. Q3: Can I change my W-4 elections? A3: You can easily change your W-4 elections online or by phone. Sign on to OneHR.ge.com, and go to Pay & Taxes, or call the GE Payroll Center at Q4: What is the process for garnishments and/or courtordered deductions? A4: Garnishments and court-ordered payroll deductions are handled through Garnishment Services, a third-party administrator. If you currently have a garnishment and/or court-ordered payroll deduction, this will be automatically transferred to Garnishment Services, and the appropriate deductions will be withheld from your paychecks, beginning with the first one. The deducted amount will be remitted in accordance with the garnishment or court order. Any new garnishments and/ or court orders should be sent to your local HR representative who will forward the information to Garnishment Services. If you have any questions about garnishments withheld, you may call Garnishment Services directly at , Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Pacific time. Calculate your annual pay There are weeks in the GE fiscal calendar. To calculate your annual salary, take the bi-weekly gross pay from your first check, divide by 2, and multiply by : GE bi-weekly salary $1, GE weekly salary (bi-weekly/2) $ GE annual salary (weekly x ) $40,128 For additional payroll questions, call the GE Payroll Center at , Monday Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., ET. For additional benefits questions, call Empyrean at , Monday Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., ET. Page 5
