5 Defn Sec 1.8: Introduction to Solving Linear Equations A term is a number, a variable, or a product of a number and variable(s). An expression is a sum or difference of one or more terms. A constant term is a term in an expression consisting of only a number. Like terms have identical variable parts. We can combine (+ or -) terms ONLY IF THEY ARE LIKE TERMS.
