1 RANTOUL CITY SCHOOLS MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Rantoul City Schools is to empower learners to grow beyond limits by: Providing a nurturing environment where learners feel free to take risks. Ensuring individual needs are met through engaging opportunities. Expecting academic and behavioral excellence. RANTOUL CITY SCHOOLS VISION STATEMENT Rantoul City School is a collaborative community of empowered learners that inspires all to grow beyond limits. We need educators who are excited to take on the challenge of making a change in a currently low performing school district. RCS is in the midst of restructuring the entire district. We have begun by utilizing research-based models for all instructional decisions, such as Tom Guskey, Eric Jensen, and of course Charlotte Danielson. DISTRICT ENROLLMENT: PreK-8: 1,600 students RANTOUL is located in Champaign County ten miles north of Champaign/Urbana and 120 miles south of Chicago, East of Interstate 57. FACILITIES: Four K-5th Grade Elementary Buildings: Pleasant Acres Elementary (325 students) Broadmeadow Elementary (274 students) o 1 Early Childhood classroom Houses Special Needs programs o Houses ELL services Eastlawn Elementary (245 students) Northview Elementary (257 students) o 2 Early Childhood classrooms Houses Special Needs programs o Houses ELL services One 6th 8th Grade Building: J. W. Eater Junior High (454 students) One Alternative Junior High School: Thompson Learning Academy (32 students) DISTRICT WEB SITE COLLEGES Rantoul: Olivet Nazarene provides on-site Cohort Master s Degree Programs-Reading, Administration, & soon, ESL Champaign/Urbana: Parkland College and University of Illinois. RETAIL Walmart in Rantoul; Rantoul Downtown area with a variety of shops and eateries; Market Place Mall located in Champaign and many other large retail stores Best Buy, Menards, Target and more. RECREATION Rantoul Forum Fitness Center (with district discount). CULTURAL Close proximity to local communities allows a variety of cultural activities. INDUSTRY Easton Bell Helmet and Sports, Jeld-Wen Windows and Doors, ConAir, Taylor Studios, Rantoul Business Incubator, Rantoul Airport. TUITION REIMBURSEMENT/BONUS (Teachers only): Teachers can receive up to $500 a semester for college coursework reimbursement. Teachers will receive a $3500 bonus/stipend upon completing a Master s Degree. The teacher will need to get approval to begin the coursework and submit paid receipts & grades to receive the reimbursement check each semester. Please refer to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for details. SICK & PERSONAL LEAVE: Each employee will receive 12 sick days, 3 personal days & 3 bereavement days per year. Personal leave can accumulate up to 6 days. The sick and personal days roll over to the next year and can accumulate over time. 2 LIFE INSURANCE: The district carries a life insurance policy on each employee. The teacher will receive a $25,000 policy and additional coverage may be picked up at the employee s expense. TAX SHELTERED ANNUITIES: Employees may choose to have funds deducted from their payroll and be paid toward a 401 K or similar account. TRS (Teachers only): THE 9.4% TRS is paid by the employee and is deducted from his/her payroll. IMRF (All ESP s): 4.5% of IMRF is paid by the employee and is deducted from his/her payroll. PAYROLL DATES: Employees, except teachers, may choose 19 pay days or 24 pay days. 19 pays first check is approx. August 15th & last check is May 30 th (not a choice for Teachers) 24 pays first check is appox. September 15th & last check is August 30th DENTAL REIMBURSEMENT: The district offers a dental reimbursement plan for the employee and his/her family. You are free to choose your own dentist and you turn in the receipt for reimbursement. It is a sliding scale for reimbursement and coverage cost as follows: PREMIUM BOARD PAYS Employee $21.00 $21.00 Employee + dependent $38.00 $21.00 Family $50.00 $21.00 RCS will pay 100% of the first $250, then 80% of the next $250; and then 50% of the next $1500 incurred in the dental plan year, with an annual maximum reimbursement benefit of $1200 per year per person for any dental expense including orthodontia, not covered under our medical plan. Lifetime maximum reimbursement of $1500 on orthodontics. Sick Leave Reimbursement (Teachers, TAs, Custodians): A retiring employee will have the option of selling back to the district all accumulated sick leave days in excess of 340 days which cannot be used to establish TRS creditable service at $25 per day. This payment shall be paid post-retirement, i.e., after the employee s last day of service and after the employee receives his or her final paycheck for services. Attendance Bonus Payments: Teachers 1. A total annual amount of $2500 will be available for teachers using no sick, personal, or unpaid leave days (excludes other contractual leave) during the entire school year. The amount will be divided evenly among the 2

3 3 eligible teachers and will be paid during the first December payroll of the next school year to the teacher(s) who return to RCS teaching positions. The bonus shall be limited so that in no circumstances shall teachers who are within four (4) years of retirement eligibility receive more than a 6% increase in total reportable creditable earnings from the previous year s total reportable creditable earnings. If the bonus causes the teacher s total reportable creditable earnings to exceed the prior school year s total reportable creditable earnings by more than 6%, then the employee will receive a equivalent credit toward the purchase of additional supplies for his/her classroom. 2. Additionally, a bonus of $50 per day, up to a maximum of four days ($200.00), for teachers using four or less days of total combined sick and personal leave (and no unpaid leave) during the school year will be available. For example, a teacher who only uses one day would receive $200.00; a teacher who only uses two days would receive $150.00; a teacher who only uses three days would receive $100.00; and a teacher who only uses four days would receive $ The bonus will be paid during the first December payroll of the next school year to the teacher(s) who return to RCS teaching positions.
