1 Catholic Charities of California Poverty Data by within Diocese within California July 2013 The tables below provide the following data for each county in California, grouped by local Catholic Charities Agency: population: Living below the federal poverty line: Cost of Living: Unemployed: Undocumented: Uninsured: Homelessness: High School Dropout Rates: Adults Lacking Basic Prose Estimates of population by county and statewide for June (U.S. Census Bureau) This statistic is defined as the number of people with income at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines in (U.S. Census Bureau) Number and percent of households below the self-sufficiency standard. The self-sufficiency standard is a county-by-county measure of the cost of living; households below this standard do not have sufficient income to cover basic expenses like childcare, transportation, healthcare, and food. The number and percent of people in California who were unemployed as of January 2013, out of the total Civilian Labor Force (N = 18.5 million, statewide). (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and California Employment Development Department) Number of Unauthorized Immigrants in California Estimates for Counties. NOTE: Some county data, due to small population size, was not included in the counts, but are combined here for reporting purposes. Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Mariposa, Alpine, Mono, Inyo = 2,500 or 1.4% of total population; Colusa, Glenn, Tehama, Trinity = 10,000 or 8.3% of total population; Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen = 1,000 or 1.0% of total population; Mendocino, Lake = 8,000 or 5.0% of total population; Monterey, San Benito = 62,000 or 13.5% of total population; Plumas, Sierra, Nevada = 2,000 or 1.5% of total population; Sutter, Yuba = 9,000 or 5.6% of total population. -by-county estimates of the number of California residents without health insurance. NOTE: Some county data, due to small population size, was combined for the purposes of these counts. Point-in-time count of the number and percent of individuals in each county who were homeless (sheltered and unsheltered) on a given night, from the Assessment of Homelessness Annual Report (AHAR) to Congress 2010, published by HUD in NOTE: This data is not available for every county and some counties were combined for the purposes of these counts. Therefore the data is not presented in the graph. Dropouts by grades 9 through 12 in the state of California for year of The 4-year derived dropout rate is an estimate of the percent of students who would drop out in a four year period based on data collected for a single year. Indirect estimate of the percentages of adults lacking Basic Prose Literacy Skills (BPLS) in 2003 for each county in California. indirect estimates were produced applying small area estimation techniques that use a statistical model to relate the
