2 MARCH 208 DEBT MARKET OUTLOOK The sharp downward movement in long term rates came in as a surprise. However, after this sharp downward movement, the long term rates can potentially consolidate at these levels. The markets will now increasingly look at the incoming data (inflation and tax revenues) to take the next directional move. However, what may help the downwards movement in the domestic interest rate is the possibility of a continued global risk off trade, thereby creating flows towards risk off assets like US Gilts. EQUITY MARKET OUTLOOK Midcap index has fallen by more than % in the last two months. Post this correction the midcap space of market has started to trade below +SD forward PE valuations. The probability of higher interest rate and a fear of trade war in developed market increases the propensity of volatility in flows towards emerging market, leading to higher volatility in markets. The Domestic Equity market is continuing to expect significant earnings pick up in next two years and the probability of that getting achieved is higher due to lower base effect (GST, Demon) and higher inflation (positive for earnings). In such scenarios generally market tends to reward companies who actually deliver earnings far ahead of expectation. So equities can be looked at stock specific and earnings specific. Net two months would be crucial for earnings in terms of FY8 full year numbers and the management commentary on the outlook they are seeing for the future Source: Bloomberg Mahindra Mutual Fund Kar Bachat Yojana Mahindra Dhan Sanchay Equity Savings Yojana Mahindra Mutual Fund Badhat Yojana Mahindra Liquid Fund Mahindra Low Duration Bachat Yojana Mahindra Unnati Emerging Business Yojana Scheme Ready Reference ELSS, Tax saving scheme Scheme with portfolio mix of equity, debt and arbitrage Diversified multi-cap multi-sector equity scheme Liquid Fund Low duration debt scheme Mid Cap equity scheme How to read Factsheet Fund Manager: An employee of the asset management company such as a mutual fund of the insurer, who manages investments of the scheme. Some typical benchmarks include the Nifty, Sensex, BSE 200, BSE 500, - year GSec. Entry Load: A mutual fund may have a sales charge or load at the time of entry and / or exit to compensate the distributor / agent. Entry load is charged at the time an investor purchases the units of a mutual fund. The entry load is added to the prevailing NAV at the time of investment. For instance, if the NAV is Rs. 0 and the entry load is %, the investor will enter the fund at Rs.. Note: SEBI, vide circular dated June 30, 2009 has abolished entry load and mandated that the upfront commission to distributors will be paid by the investor directly to the distributor, based on his assessment of various factors including the service rendered by the distributor. Exit load: Exit load is charged at the time an investor redeems the units of a mutual fund. The exit load is deducted from the prevailing NAV at the time of redemption. For instance, if the NAV is Rs. 0 and the exit load is %, the redemption price would be Rs. 99 per unit. Modified Duration: Modified duration is the price sensitivity and the percentage change in price for unit change in yield. Macaulay Duration: It measures the average time that would be taken to receive the cash flows from the invested instrument. It is the weighted average term to maturity of the cash flows from an instrument. Macaulay Duration is a measure of interest rate sensitivity of a fixed income instrument. Higher the Macaulay Duration, higher would be the interest rate risk. For a detailed understanding of calculations, please refer page no 24 of SID of Mahindra Low Duration Bachat Yojana. When a mutual fund has a high standard deviation, its means its range of performance is wide, implying greater volatility.
