3 your BILTMORE ESTATE TOUR itinerary DAY 1 Departing Owings Mills, MD this morning, you will head towards Asheville, NC. You ll make a rest stop this morning and a stop mid-day in Roanoke, VA for lunch (at your own expense) and some free time. Arriving in Asheville late this afternoon you ll check into your hotel, the DoubleTree by Hilton Asheville Biltmore. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant. Meal included: dinner DAY 2 Following a full breakfast at the hotel, you ll start your day with a Legacy of the Land Tour at Biltmore. A local guide will take you on a driving tour of the estate where you will learn about the history of the land, structures and former residents while visiting areas of the estate not usually open to guests. Next, take a stroll through the formal and informal gardens designed by America s foremost landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. From the beauty of the Italian Garden to the breathtaking trees in America s first managed forest, Biltmore s lush landscape is a living tribute to Olmsted s genius. While strolling the gardens, you ll enjoy the exhibition, Chihuly at Biltmore, which showcases breathtaking large-scale glass sculptures by premier American glass artist Dale Chihuly. The vibrant colors and organic shapes that distinguish Chihuly s dramatic creations are captivatingly presented within Biltmore s artfully designed landscapes. Lunch is included today at Deerpark Restaurant on the grounds of Biltmore estate. This afternoon, visit the Farm at Antler Hill and step into the everyday lives of families who lived on the estate raising livestock, tending crops, and working at Biltmore Dairy in the 1890s. The Barn in Antler Hill Village once the social and work center for these families is once again alive with blacksmiths, woodworkers and other demonstrations. This evening after the crowds have gone, enjoy a guided tour of Biltmore House and see the elegant architecture, priceless antiques and spacious rooms transformed into breathtaking compositions. This special tour will make you feel as though you are visiting Biltmore House as a guest of the Vanderbilts. The evening tour will finish with a reception on the rooftop of the house. From here you will have spectacular views of the century-old gardens and Blue Ridge Mountains while savoring Biltmore Winery s award-winning wines and canapes. DAY 3 Following breakfast at the hotel you ll spend the day touring Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway with a local guide. You ll start with a visit to the Basilica of St. Lawrence.

4 DAY 3 Following breakfast at the hotel you ll spend the day touring Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway with a local guide. You ll start with a visit to the Basilica of St. Lawrence. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the basilica features the largest free standing elliptical dome in North America and elaborate stained glass windows. The basilica was designed and built in 1905 by Spanish architect Rafael Guastavino along with his fellow architect R. S. Smith who were drawn to Asheville to work on Biltmore Estate. Following your tour of the Basilica, you will take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Folk Art Center, home to the Southern Highland Craft Guild. The center showcases the finest in traditional and contemporary crafts of Southern Appalachia in three galleries, a library, the Guild s oldest craft shop and live demonstrations. Continuing your drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway you ll stop at the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor s Center before visiting the historic town of Black Mountain. Enjoy free time in Black Mountain to have lunch (at your own expense) and shop before returning to Asheville. You ll have a chance to relax and freshen up at the hotel before going to the Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville for dinner on your own this evening. The Grove Arcade features an eclectic mix of shopping and dining in one of Asheville s architectural treasures. Meal included: breakfast DAY 4 After breakfast you ll depart Asheville and head east, stopping mid-day in Floyd, VA at the Chateau Morrisette Winery and Restaurant for a wine tasting and lunch. For three generations, the Morrisette family has been making wine in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Today it is one of the oldest and largest wineries in Virginia. The family also operates the Chateau Morrisette Restaurant, an award-winning AAA Four-Diamond restaurant. As you enjoy lunch, savor the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, ranked among the top restaurant views in America. Following lunch you ll head for home.
