2 The Acorns tandem 10,000ft freefall skydive! Imagine sitting at the edge of an open doorway in an aircraft flying at 10,000 feet noise of the engines and the wind ringing in your ears with only the distant fields below. Now imagine leaning forward out of that doorway and letting go falling forward through the air as you start freefalling at over 120mph! Then imagine the peace and quiet as the canopy opens, your fall slows and you gently return to earth. Fancy it? You can take part in this exciting opportunity with a group of Acorns supporters on Sunday 30 th September Alternately we can organise for you to jump independently on a date of your choice (excluding Mondays when the airfield is closed). If you would like to do this please provide your preferred date/s on the attached registration form and we will check availability with the airfield. What does the jump involve? Technically the jump is a Tandem Skydive. It is a skydive because you will be freefalling through the air (without the parachute deployed) for several thousand feet; it is in tandem because you are harnessed to a professional parachute instructor. An incredible experience and the challenge of a lifetime! What happens on the day? All jumpers should make their way to Hinton Skydiving Centre at Hinton Airfield in Northamptonshire, at the agreed date and time. Further information about the day and directions to the location will be sent out once your registration form has been received. Jumpers are encouraged to bring friends and family along to spectate and perhaps enjoy a picnic in the fields! After receiving a briefing and being fitted with your equipment you will be ready to take to the skies at altitudes of up to 13,000 (depending on weather conditions). You will receive some skydiving instruction, but all jumpers are strapped to the front of a tandem instructor who is there to control the entire skydive for you. Once you exit the plane you will accelerate to 120mph, covering each thousand feet in approximately 5 seconds. At 5,000 feet the instructor will deploy the parachute which will then be controlled by them until you land softly and gently some four minutes later. Are there any restrictions? Yes. To do a tandem skydive you need to be 16 years of age or over and under 15 stone in weight. Those between the ages of 16 and 18 will need a parent or guardian present on the day to sign a permissions form; all those aged 40 and over, or those with a medical condition will need to bring a medical declaration signed by their doctor on the day of the event. The principal medical restrictions for the jump are diabetes, epilepsy, fits, recurrent blackouts, heart and lung disease, mental illness and in some cases - asthma. Pre-existing conditions will not necessarily prevent you from jumping but all medical conditions will need to be declared. All participants will be asked to sign a medical form before the jump declaring their fitness to take part. In the case of bad weather, Hinton Skydiving Centre and Acorns will postpone the dive and will rebook an alternative date.
3 How do I sign up? If you would like to register to skydive for Acorns Children s Hospice, please read and complete the enclosed booking form and medical declaration. Please note: although we need the medical form at the point of booking you will also be asked to fill this in on the day to show that information is current. Doctors signature is needed only for those applicable and only on the day, not in advance. If you are aged 40 or over please ask your doctor to sign the Doctors Certificate section and bring this with you on the day. If you are between 16 and 18 years of age you will need to have a parent or guardian with you on the day to sign a permissions form. You will not be allowed to jump unless you can fulfil these requirements on the day. Please also read carefully the Terms and Conditions as you will have to accept these to take part. If you have any enquiries regarding them please contact us. Please send your registration form, medical declaration and deposit payment to the address below or fax to Participants are required to raise a minimum sponsorship of 450 (including a deposit which must be paid at the time of booking). This covers the cost of the jump at 200 per person (including third party insurance you may wish to purchase personal accident insurance, this can be done on the day) and raise a minimum of 250 sponsorship for Acorns Children's Hospice. Please send the deposit with your booking form to Acorns as soon as possible to reserve your place. We can take the deposit payment from a credit or debit card or we can accept a cheque made payable to Acorns Children's Hospice. Acorns should receive a second instalment of 200 from you four weeks before the jump. This is to cover the cost of your jump and you will only be allowed to take part if this has been received. The remaining money (minimum of 200) should be received by Acorns two weeks after the jump. Please remember that every penny of this amount or over will go to Acorns Children s Hospice so please don t let the minimum amount stop you from fundraising more! How do I fundraise? 5 Terms and Conditions 1. All deposits are non-refundable and must be received at the time of booking. 2. By ticking the boxes and signing the booking form you agree to pay a second instalment of 200 sponsorship money 4 weeks in advance of the jump (to cover the cost of the jump) and raise a final instalment of a minimum of weeks after the jump. 3. The minimum age for any parachute activity is 16 years and the maximum weight is 15 stone. 4. All skydivers will be asked to fill in a medical statement on registration and immediately before the jump. Persons of 40 years and over will be required to produce, on the day, a British Parachute Association declaration of fitness form, stamped and signed by their GP. Those between the ages of will require a parent or guardian present to sign a permission form. Failure to fulfill these conditions will result in the place on the jump being forfeited. 5. All skydivers should be in good health and possess a reasonable basic level of fitness. Certain conditions preclude participants from taking part. Hinton Skydiving Centre s instructors will make all final decisions on if a health condition might make it dangerous for an individual to take part in a dive and refuse their admission. In this instance, money paid will be forfeited and Acorns Children's Hospice will not be responsible for any costs, however we will make every reasonable effort to reschedule the jump with prior notice and proof of medical exemption from a GP. 6. In the case of bad weather Hinton Skydiving Centre reserve the right to change the date of the skydive. All deposits and payments made will be transferred to an alternative date. 7. In the case of a cancellation by Hinton Skydiving Centre, Acorns Children's Hospice will inform you as soon as possible but we have no liability to make any refunds or to pay any compensation. Any compensation will be solely at the discretion of the supplier. 8. While on the premises of the airfield all participants are representatives of Acorns Children's Hospice. As such we expect all participants to have consideration for other people. If, in our reasonable opinion, or in the reasonable opinion of any supplier or any other person in authority, you or any member of your party behaves in such a way that is detrimental to the reputation of Acorns, or in such a way as to cause, or be likely to cause upset, distress or danger to any third party or damage to any property we and/or the relevant supplier are entitled, without prior notice, to terminate the jump of the person(s) concerned. In this situation, the person(s) concerned will be required to leave the airfield. Neither we nor any supplier will have any further responsibility toward such person(s), no refunds will be made and neither we nor any suppliers will pay any expenses or costs incurred as a result of the termination. 9. Participants are required to make their own way to Hinton Airfield. Hinton Skydiving Centre may refuse to accept any late arrivals. In this case all monies paid will be forfeited and Acorns Children's Hospice will take no responsibility for others costs incurred by the participants (such as travel costs). Participants who fail to turn up on the day without prior notice will also forfeit money paid and will not be offered the right to reschedule. 10. By entering the event you give permission for the free use of any pictures or video footage taken of you on the day for promotional advertising or other uses as deemed appropriate by Acorns Children s Hospice. 11. When you book, you accept responsibility for any damage or loss caused by you at Hinton Skydiving Centre. Full payment for any such damage or loss must be paid direct at the time to the supplier. If you fail to do so, you will be responsible for meeting any claims subsequently made against Acorns (together with our own and the other party's full legal costs) as a result of your actions. 12. In addition to Acorns Children's Hospice Terms and Conditions, in signing this form you also agree to adhere to the conditions set down by Hinton Skydiving Centre. 13. Hinton skydiving centre reserve the right to make reasonable changes to the programme of any activity so long as these do not affect to any material extent the nature and scope of such activity. 14. The timing of any activity is given as a guide only and you will be required to wait for your turn along with other members of the public and club members. Hinton Skydiving Centre reserves the right to reschedule the timings or location of any activity, possibly at short notice, owing to unavailability of the activity, booking numbers, or any factor beyond the control of Hinton Skydiving Centre. Hinton Skydiving Centre reserves the right to discontinue an activity at its own discretion and should a suitable alternative be unavailable, you shall be entitled to a refund at the full purchase price.
