Briefing by National Treasury on Division of Revenue Bill OF MEETING SUMMARY OF PROCEEDINGS 26 Feb 2014 The report by Denel was well received as it indicated significant progress for Denel as well as the communities at large. 27 Feb 2014 The committee adopted its legacy report. 26 Feb 2014 The Committee was briefed on the three conventions. The Department of Basic Education had conducted an initial baseline study which revealed that most schools had similar safety and security challenges. The study revealed that 20% of scholars had experienced some form of cyber bullying violence in the past year. 28 Feb 2014 This was a joint meeting with the Standing Committee on Appropriations. Provincial finance committee chairpersons were also invited, and three attended. National Treasury briefed the Committees on the Division of Revenue Bill. 38

The Committee advised the Department to ensure that officials would be available to be deployed to the provinces to assist the permanent delegates in briefing the provinces. 4 Mar 2014 The meeting was held jointly with the Standing Committee on Finance. The Committees received submissions from interested parties on the Fiscal Framework and Revenue. 5 Mar 2014 The first part of the meeting was held jointly with the Standing Committee, during which both Committees adopted d the draft Report on the Fiscal Framework and Revenue. During the second part the Select Committee received a briefing from the Senior Parliamentary Legal Advisor, Adv Jenkins, on the Financial Management of Parliament Amendment Bill. 5 Mar 2014 The Committee commended NSFAS on the work done during the period covered. However, concerns were raised regarding challenges with student accommodation. 4 Mar 2014 The Department reported on the background of the bill and on what the Bill seeks to achieve. The Minister reiterated that the current 18 Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs) identified in the National Infrastructure Plan would remain key strategic focused infrastructure projects. The approach advocated by the proposed legislation seeks to enhance integrated regional development with clear focus on social infrastructure, and productive infrastructure. 40
