11 RMSG involvement Member State responses Portugal in favour of UNFC, Ireland uses PERC or PERC equivalent system, Romania uses UNFC, and in Spain works on implementing a methodology and a mandatory information system similar to the UNFC has been put in place. Response Industry outcome's from extra meetings International harmonised and understandable reporting In favour of a centralized classification system, added value in governmental organisation taking up reports Suggested way forward for standardisation and harmonisation is that UNFC is the over-arching system operated at MS and EU level

12 FUTURE DIRECTIONS Reporting by Public Institutions should include reporting on reserves and resources European Commission supports the efforts of the UNECE to promote the UNFC as an umbrella for reserve and resource classification for minerals as it has the potential to become an EU level platform for reporting on mineral reserves and resources. Such EU level platform for reporting on mineral reserves and resources would add significant information on the EU mineral potential and consequently to the supply of minerals from EU sources that is the cornerstone to the second pillar of the Raw Materials Initiative as well as one of the goals of the European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials.

State of the play on quality and quantity of statistical data, including terminology that is used; Gaps, bottlenecks and recommendations (access to data, harmonisation, aggregation, presentation, ) Search engine.

17 Other initiatives Recent developments FP 7 EuroGeoSource project finished in early 2013 PERC meeting - The first annual general meeting of PERC asbl in March 2013 UNECE meeting (April 2013) "European Commission is an observer of the UNFC development. The UNFC Specifications are a step further in its development. At this stage is too early to say what role UNFC will play in the potential EU level reserve and resource reporting; however in the INSPIRE Directive the UNFC (2009) classification is used, and the Energy and Resource Data Team recommends its use, where possible."
