14 Frequently Asked Questions/Comments My value was raised so the County would get more money. No, the value is set months prior to the levy. The tax collected by the jurisdiction is independent of the property value. My house hasn t changed; why did the value of my parcel increase? Assessed value is based on sales of real estate. If sale prices change, so will assessed value.
15 Frequently Asked Questions/Comments If my neighbor builds a house will my taxes go up? No. If nothing else changes your taxes will go down, because the neighbor will pay a larger portion of the total. My house is incomplete, so it cannot be valued/taxed. It will be assessed and taxed as incomplete. Even as incomplete it adds value to the property.
