3 Central Bohemia (Territorial co-operation: improving quality of life) 'International co-operation in declining, ageing and regional Transformation' 20 October 2010 Cerhenice Co-operation Presentations & workshops Organisers: Central Bohemia Region European Office Mr Marek SEMERAD, Head of the Central Bohemia Region European Office Speakers : Central Bohemia Region local event will focus on how the region is cooperating in area of declining, ageing and regional Transformation and how we can benefit from learning from other EU regions. The event will showcase some examples of regional projects and initiatives that are tackling key European challenges, sharing best practice and improving local service delivery. This one-day event will bring the Brussels OPEN DAYS back to the region. We will look at possible activities: Assess impact (benefits) of innovative social systems which might complement existing social network and design the most effective one. System of regional information centres (care points) implemented in areas with weak health network especially in rural areas or areas with bad connection to bigger cities. The centres would focus on providing information and consultancy for citizens (especially elderly) on nutrition, prevention, sport and healthy life style. System of volunteers/assistants (neighbourhood assistance) which would complement work of social workers. Providing erderly people unprofessional care (e.g. housekeeping, hygiene, alimentation, conversation etc.). Examples of good practice. Representatives from the region s local authorities, local governments, NGOs, voluntary and community sector. : 3

What is the aim of the community grants? Who can request a grant? How does one request a grant? The presentation of the community grants will be accompanied by an exhibition of chosen projects, which have been supported by community grants. The idea is to build information stands, where selected community grants will be presented by prospectus and informational materials to interested groups from City of Prague. Another part of the fair will be a round table discussion with successful grant beneficiaries about their experiences with community grants and the preparation of their projects or activities. This year has been declared by the United Nations as the International year of biodiversity and the EU has joined this initiative by getting involved more actively in this topic. From the biodiversity point of view the Ústí Region belongs to one of the richest areas not only in the Czech Republic but also in Europe. Very diverse natural conditions as well as specific ways of using the landscape have contributed to an interesting natural history of this region. The Ústí Region values its natural heritage and wants to actively join the process of biodiversity protection, particularly with regard to forthcoming measures of the European Union in this field such as Biodiversity policy after 2010 or biodiversity proofing. One-day workshop in the framework of Europe in my region will provide a background for discussion between all the biodiversity protection stakeholders, be it local and regional authorities, representatives of the EU institutions, national ministries, universities, associations, NGOs and common citizens. The workshop participants will share their best practices and will try to find the most suitable solutions for current regional challenges. The outcomes will be reflected in the preparation of the new policy of the Ústí Region for biodiversity protection. Specific attention will be devoted to the impact of EU activities on the priority projects within the Region: R49, regional logistic terminals, regional cargo airport and industrial area in Holesov. The goal of the campaign is to stress the importance of the European transport strategies and Trans-European networks, their impact on local strategic projects (R49, airports, etc.) and to connect the regional, national and European communities. In parallel, the meeting of the regional Committee responsible for the strategic planning in transport development will be also held. The participants will consist of experts on transport and regional development, decision-makers, representatives of local municipalities and business sectors. The goal of the seminar is to show the tangible effects of the presence in the EU, the impact of the European policies in the Region, the importance of events such as the Open Days. During the seminar, some of the most successful EU projects implemented in the Zlín Region and supported by the Structural Funds, will be presented. The seminar is designed especially for wide public and university students so they can better understand the importance of the European dimension for regions. This event, occurring in Zlín, the capital of the Zlín Region, is organized in cooperation with the Municipality of Zlín, the Regional Council of the Central Moravia Cohesion Region and the Tomas Bata University.
