7 CAUSE AND EFFECT A new GAO analysis finds that among households with members aged 55 or older, nearly 29 percent have neither retirement savings nor a traditional pension plan. 7

8 CAUSE AND EFFECT The average amount of student loan debt is approaching $30,000, according to a new report from the Institute for College Access and Success. Meanwhile, the national student loan default rate dropped to 13.7% in 2014 which is still too high, according to Education Secretary Arne Duncan. 8

9 CAUSE AND EFFECT Underbanked consumers tend to rely upon non-bank money orders, non-bank check cashing services, non-bank remittances, payday loans, rent-to-own services, pawn shops, or refund anticipation loans (RALs). 9
