1 The Earned Income Tax Credit Claim the Tax Refunds You Deserve What is the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)? The EITC is a refundable tax-credit for working individuals who have earned income. If you are eligible, this credit reduces the tax you owe and may give you a cash refund. Can I claim the EITC? You can claim the EITC even if you did not have any income tax withheld. However, you must file a tax return. You need a valid Social Security Number, and must be a U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien all year. You may claim the EITC up to three years back. It is not too late to file tax returns for How much cash can I claim? The EITC refund depends on your income and family size. In 2015, individuals received up to $6,242. The average was over $2,400, and may help with rent, vehicle, food, children and medical costs. For more information, visit

If you save your tax refund, it will not count against federally-funded benefit program resource/asset limits for 12 months after the refund is received. IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN Age: For the EITC, children must be under 19 at the end of 2015 (fulltime students can be under 24 and children who are permanently and totally disabled can be any age).
