Constant Contact Survey Results Survey Name: Park Tax Assessment Response Status: Partial & Completed Filter: None Jun 13, :51:56 AM 1. Do you approve of a special millage of 50 cents on every $1,000 of appraised value on your home or property for Answer I'm OK with this IF the amount collected each year does not increase or decrease as home values go up or down. I'm sure this could be written into the ordinance. I am opposed to any increases in real estate taxes until the city council is more fiscally responsible related to hoe they charge residents for the water and sewer installation. Property Taxes are quite high as it is. With all these new assessments just put on the Homeowner, I donâ t feel another obligation is a wise idea. They already bleed enough taxes and fees out of us as it is. No more tax increases. Iâ m about an increase away from moving out of this waterfront wonderland!
They are playing a shell game. The Northwest will pay and pay and get nothing in return. Enough already - Fire Tax, Public Service Tax, Sewer and water plus our regular taxes. We need information before we can make intelligent, informed decisions such as this. Where are the city of Cape Coral's financial statements viewable? What are the dollar amounts of the city's assets and liabilities? What are the estimated incomes and expenses for the city for the next ten years? This is just another rip off on older Homeowners. I am for spending $$ on parks and green space, just think the amount is too much. I don't understand why it seems that every project the city starts ends up costing so much and many times going over budget TOO MANY TAXES AND TOO MANY PARKS!!!! My only problem is without knowing how much itâ s going to cost how can you say 60 million they said the 47th project was going to be 13 million we can see itâ ll be a lot more MY TAXES HAVE MORE THAN DOUBLE IN LAST 10 YEARS. WITH ALL THE NEW HOMES AND CITY GETTING MORE TAXES OUR YAXS SHOULD BE LESS NOT MORE. LEE DOBBS Each option that is going to be funded would need to be specified before I would vote yes. Values are going up 7.4 % on home values. Thatâ s yet another tax increase. Reduce the millage the public service tax and stop the SHADOW Goverment! 15 Years No way!!! Too many taxes already. The city is extending itself too far. We must control revenue better than what they are doing. The people in power are buying too much property. I believe that government should stay away from private property. Itâ s not the purpose of government. Property taxes are currently too high.. Saving land for parks is necessary for the future of our descendants. Think how New York would be without Central Park and others throughout the city. I wouldnâ t purchase a car if I didnâ t know what it was either! We are taxed enough already, when does it end especially with the current ongoing assessments
Cost of everything is going up except my pension. We donâ t need more parks, period! Our taxes are high enough. How will senior citizens afford this. What happens when money runs out. Where will it come from to do maintenance and up keep of parks. Thatâ s what the city should have done with the UEP. Buy bonds and paid it over years with sales tax increase. I would approve of this tax if it were actually going towards parks and trails. I do not, however, consider an ampitheatrw or sports park (which would most likely have limited use) as parks. We need real parks - open space - and trails so people can get out and enjoy the outdoors. My taxes have doubled since I purchased my home 7 years ago. I am retired and on a fixed income. With the cost of almost everything else increasing, I can not afford to pay more for property taxes. Trails should include the North Cape. They put a tax on our electricity a few years back. Property values are going up and so will the corresponding property taxes. The city spent $13 million on the 7 islands without a public hearing. Retiring soon. Sewers coming in future -- enough! The people on the council donâ t have short or especially long range plans. I have been to their meetings. They are just making decision by the seat of their pants and do not even listen to the citizens who are at the meeting to talk. NO!!!! City should not be in the land purchase business...altogether with the Tymon purchase, how much in taxes is the city not receiving from city owned property? Need more budget info. Not enough information to make a solid decision. THE CITY SHOULD NEVER PURCHASE THE OLD GOLF COURSE.LET THEM BUILD 400 HOMES ON THIS PROPERTY AND BUILD A PARK ON THE LEFT OVER 100 HOME LOTS The City has more then enough money, it needs to be spent more wisely. Ridiculous amt of money We are already being assessed for city water! Do not raise our taxes! More the better I don't want to pay for money making parks in the southwest cape.
My husband & I have been in CC since 1996.There was a prior FAILED referendum on parks - we can't remember the year and google fails us , 1999, or 2000? Anyone remember? We are still dealing with the Fire Assessment fee added into our taxes. Taxes are already too high in Cape Coral. It is highly unlikely that I or my guests or a large percentage of NWCC residents would access the "Park". The residents of NWCC have already been spuriously assessed for the water & sewer utilities and yet we still languish behind with a lack of city amenities that would be best addressed in a genuine "MASTER PLAN". This is complete rubbish. I will vote NO... I would be okay with a smaller amount with no theater Specific plans should be provided. Hasnâ t the council made enough money? I care not for improvements in sections of town I have no intention of frequenting! Quit spending money. W needs more info from govt... They're kidding right? They have no money and are not getting it from us. Canâ t afford the taxes now. Taxes are rising extremely fast as they keep trying to come up with new ways to raise funds. Somewhere along the line they need to be reeled in. First there was a special street assessment tax a few years ago. Second there was a "special fire assessment" tax. In Nov. there will be a proposed.5% increase in the sales tax on the ballot. Now the City wants this increase for parks, etc. for 15 years. When will all this fiscal madness end. What is the City doing with all the impact fees they are collecting nowadays with the building boom that is currently going on? I thought a portion of these fees went to parks, ECT. Need more details. Not too excited how this is going down We are already getting slammed with utility assessments that do not seem right. Taxes are high enough now! As fast cape coral is growing taxes should be going down.
Many times funds approved for specific projects lack periodic public accounting of where the money is going; how it is being spent; and knowledge that the project is staying within budget. Will there be an end? A report issued covering full accounting of what was or not accomplished and end of money collecting? Fifteen years is a long time. Projects that last more than a decade usually stop updating the public as to progress of the project and an accounting of where the money is ongoing. If a majority of the funds would be to support one site it seems to me to be unbalanced providing most of the benefits primarily to homes in the immediate vicinity of the "Old Golf Course Park. Great for home values in that part of the city. This would work better as a SPLOST I would not vote for it unless I see a comprehensive plan on how the money would be spent over the next 15 years. With the UEP expenses we don't need another tax increase. Two thirds of the money will be wasted at our expense. Parks and rec. should be a part of every city's long term planning, but the cost of this purchase is way too high. The planning for this land seems to be more of a pipe dream and less of a real plan to help offset some of the long term costs and use for this property. The city needs to be very specific on how the money is to be used. The devil is in the detail. I am against writing blank checks. we find it hard to approve anything from this money wasting city manager, new mayor and council Without specifics on exactly how the money would be spent I cannot support it, especially after they promised to have permits for and start replacing the Kismet kayak/canoe ramp â œin about 90 daysâ 2 years ago. Still no ramp or even solid plans to put one in.
I am tired of councils endless spending of my tax $ while totally ignoring the opinions of those who live in the NW. I feel as though I am being forced to fund the destruction of my neighborhood. Every inch of water front must be developed with multifamily in pursuit of tax revenue. What was enjoyed by all (7 Islands)will now only be enjoyed by the few new comers who will move into highrise.$23,000 for water constant millage/assessment increases I can no longer afford or want 2 live in the Cape No no no Live on a fixed income and cannot approve ANY increases to our property taxes. No and no! Absolutely not!! The park amenities would only benefit a few and another tax increase only serves to provide jobs for the already overly inflated local government! The City Council appears to be out of touch with their constituents much like Congress members in the DC beltway. We already got raked over the coals when we built our home here 5 years ago! People on retired income canâ t keep paying more and more taxes we will be forced to leave. No because there are no specific uses spelled out for the money. Without specific allocations to what the funds will go to it's just another way for the city to just get money and do whatever they want with it. There is no plan on were they will spend the money. the city is becoming the city of taxes. why don't they use the taxes they already have in a better manner City wastes the money they already get from us. They generated several "studies" to come up with a master plan. Where was this increase in the "plan"??? That's too much - would consider voting yes if the rate was much lower No more taxes. The council needs to concentrate on bringing a substantial business base to the cape other than service related industry. They need to get out of the real estate business! Cape Coral leaders do not take care of the streets and roads in Northwest Cape and other infastructer priorities are not in order. Biggest expenses will be for parks activities not in the NW. My answer might be different if some of the proposed expenditures were benefiting our area, but they aren't. This is just wrong putting the burden on home owns.
Seems like a lot to add to the existing parks budget a year on a 400,000 home for 15 years x how many homes? We have other improvements needed that take prescidence over another park. Enough parks. We need to concentrate on getting more businesses here to offset the tax burden on Cape Coral homeowners. It should be the same amount for all houses no matter the size!!! Ridiculous expenditure!! Other Florida facilities have a hard time filling their own with events. And on top of water and sewer costs for everyone in due time. We live in a growing community. While this assessment seems large it will be shared by all who chose to live and build in th Cape. we must continue to keep the Cape an appealing place to live. Taxes are too high now. We are retired and want to enjoy living here without being taxed to death! Enough already with property tax increases. Most people in Cape Coral live on fixed income. All for parks, but this is too much money for too long a period. I don't understand this at all. There are designated areas for parks all over the city that haven't had a dime spent on them in 20+ years. Now this jumps to the head of the line Why?...so the City Government can try to justify their bonehead decision to buy the golf course? I've lived all over the US and never have I received so little for what I pay in taxes. The City's bloated bureaucracy already costs way too much. If this park for the SE is so important then cut other funds to pay for it. I am so tired of the City and council putting their hands in my pocket with out letting us speak, or have open meetings, there is nothing transparent about Cape Coral. We must be the ATM for the Council, City, Police, Fire and the Public service tax on my electric bill. This is a slippery slope. Everyone wants an earmarked tax increase. The schools want one, parks want one--next there will be one for roads. All on top of the taxes we already pay that are supposed to fund such matters. And I don't care what they say about limiting the years--that's just a way to get it on the books. Getting it off the books will require an all-out war. As property values continue to climb, the city is already gaining in income. Where is all going? Pensions and benefits?
If it is voted down, that might increase the chance of the sale of 7 islands to fund the desires of the Counsel. If it passes higher taxes for things the NW Cape will not likely make good use of. No new taxes! Live within your budget like I have to. I would rather see other projects take place first, like sidewalks to make our Cape Coral safer and more walking friendly. The tax rates in CC are already quite high, ~ 2% for the ad valorem portion. I compare this with what we pay in RE taxes in Reno, NV, another state with no personal income tax, at about 1% ad valorem and while it is a bit apples to oranges, I have to wonder why so much higher here. Additionally, the proposed uses seem to benefit relatively few while adding $100 or more to everyone's taxes (median home in CC $226,200 per Zillow = $113.11), which will go up each yr. Not warranted in my opinion. Don't we have enough parks and trails as it is? Not enough info re details (breakdown) of funds. It seems the details of how to get the money is never a problem. L. Farr Absolutely NOT! Weâ re ALREADY being taxed excessively! That would be in the neighborhood of an ADDITIONAL $200 a year for us...and THEN for 15 YEARS?!? NO THANK YOU Need another access to Charlotte Harbor! Absolutely NOT!!!! The city already gets more money than it can manage!!! Not to mention the fact that north of Tropicana to the county line in the northwest seems to be the forgotten section of Cape Coral even though we pay more than our share in taxes. I am against this tax and hope the rest of Cape Coral residents see how bad this could turn out. Too much money added to our tax bill along with the other things that have been added. Are they trying to make the cost of living so high that only the upper class can afford to live there? We already have to pay the same cost for water & sewage as the commercial lots and the people with connections donâ t even have the same requirements to connect as the middle class average family. As a widow i have limited funds and can't afford higher taxes Add this in to all the other proposed nnew taxes and one starts to see real money being taken from us. Also I am opposed to the purchase of the Golf Club. The land should be developed to increase the city tax base.
no more funds for sw cape development without funds for development in north cape. funds must be on the % of tax dollars paid in by each section of the city,i.e. total tax revenue divided by tax revenue of each district SW, SE, NW, NE. Just another way to steal money!!! We need a bond to fund the UEP. Taxes and assessments in Cape Coral are getting to be too much. And we aren't seeing much of a return on the investment. Why isn't current funding adequate? When was budget last increased and by how much? How does Cape Coral funding compare to other communities with our population in the state? Is this additional funding for a specific project, if yes what is it? Only if it is capped at $0.50 and does not include the "old" golf course property. Taxes are too high now After paying for UEP, fire assessment, charter schools, & carrying costs on properties owned by the City, I feel NO compulsion to pay for more parks. Sell some city-owned properties to deep-pocket developers & use those monies for parks. That amount is too much for too long a period.
