If you have any questions or concerns regarding the tax checklist, do not hesitate to contact me or check the FAQs section of my tax blog. It is important you ensure you have received all tax slips and have provided them to me to file your return. Potential impact of incomplete returns could result in interest charged and penalties from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Specified foreign property includes, but is not limited to: funds held outside of Canada, shares of corporations resident outside of Canada, real estate property (other than that held solely for personal use) located outside of Canada, indebtedness owed by nonresidents of Canada or interests in non-resident trusts. Specified foreign property also includes non-canadian investments held in a Canadian brokerage account. Are you the beneficiary of a trust (including an estate) which is resident outside of Canada (e.g. a foreign family trust, or an employee trust established outside of Canada)? During 2016, did you own shares of a corporation resident outside of Canada (including a U.S. LLC) which is not listed on a public stock exchange? Have you filed tax returns in prior years?
