1 STATISTICS MAURITIUS Ministry of Finance & Economic Development Census and Survey Assistant (on Contract) Applications are invited from qualified candidates outside the service who wish to be considered for employment on contract as Census and Survey Assistant at Statistics Mauritius, Ministry of Finance & Economic Development. II. AGE LIMIT Candidates should have reached their 18 th birthday and should not have reached their 40 th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications. III. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Candidates should possess a Cambridge Higher School Certificate with a pass at Principal Level in Mathematics.or passes in at least two subjects including Mathematics obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level or an equivalent qualification acceptable to Statistics Mauritius. 2. Candidates should also:- (i) possess good communication skills; and (ii) have a positive attitude towards work. IV. DUTIES 1. To perform work for Censuses and Surveys including, inter alia,- (i) Preparation, verification and distribution of census and survey materials to fieldstaff; (ii) Collection, verification and control of census and survey materials from fieldstaff upon completion of fieldwork; (iii) Receiving, sorting and processing mail and preparing materials for mailing i.c.w recruitment of census and survey fieldstaff; (iv) Maintaining and processing administrative records of census and survey fieldstaff for payment purposes; (v) Collecting, editing, coding and processing of census and survey data; 1

2 (vi) Assisting in the validation of captured data; and (vii) Any other duties related to the above. V. EMPLOYMENT TERMS 1. Selected candidates (i) will be employed on contract for an initial period of 12 months, with Statistics Mauritius having the option to extend the employment period if required; and (ii) will obtain a monthly salary of Rs and will be refunded bus fares. 2. Selected candidates should give one month prior written notice to the Director of Statistics should they wish to terminate their employment before the expiry of the contract. 3. Statistics Mauritius may terminate the employment of selected candidates at any time in the event of incompetence, misconduct and insubordination. Statistics Mauritius may also, at its option, terminate the employment when it is in the interest of or for the convenience of Statistics Mauritius to do so. VI.
