5 2 Introduction The trading assistant GUARDIAN is a tool that allows automa c control of the risks of your orders. This is not an automa c trading robot (E.A.) and it doesn t take decisions or opens posi ons for you, instead it is a professional help for your trading, both manual and automa c. It computes and sets all the parameters for a new posi on according to the market, account balance, stop size and performance se ngs. All important parameters are displayed and are easily modifiable. Managing one s account and its limits is now possible without having a headache and use of an increasing number of tools. The SELL and BUY commands are available only if all parameters are sa sfied and if all limits are respected. Changes of open posi ons are analyzed and an alert message appears if a problem is detected or if an ac on is in conflict with basic rules. To insure a gain or to avoid a loss, all posi ons have an alert when BreakEven is possible. The graphic interface is rapid and easy to use and to understand. With this Man Machine interface, you can set limits directly on the chart. Today, GUARDIAN is developed to be used only on MetaTrader 4 pla orm The GUARDIAN so ware is used at each user s own risk. During the so ware usage, program malfunc ons could arise which can cause direct and/or indirect damages or losses. The creator of the GUARDIAN so ware assumes no responsibility to above men oned damage. Before using the so ware on the live account, we recommend that you get acquainted with it on a demo account. 6 3 Installation There is no automa c installa on for the so ware, but it s very simple since you only need to copy the downloaded file. Please, make the following steps to install the so ware: On the MetaTrader 4 pla orm, open the Data Folder (menu File in the upper band) Close the MetaTrader 4 pla orm. The closing is mandatory in order for the new so ware to be recognized by the pla orm. In the opened folder, select the MQL4 folder In the opened MQL4 folder, select the Expert folder Copy the downloaded file Guardian.ex4 into the Expert folder 6 The GUARDIAN

7 4 Using the program A er having copied the downloaded file, you can launch the MetaTrader 4 pla orm. Open the Navigator Window (CTRL + N ) and under Expert Advisors, you should see the already installed GUARDIAN. To install the GUARDIAN on the chart, you just need to drag and drop the name of the so ware onto the market window. When dropping the mouse, you should see the pop up window with details about the so ware. In About tab, you can see the so ware s version and some short informa on 7 The GUARDIAN

8 In Common tab, you need to have enabled at least the following se ngs : o Enable alerts o Enable live trading o Enable Long & Short posi ons to use BUY and SELL order types. In Inputs tab, it is important to choose a specific Magic Number for the current market. This is necessary in order to quickly find all market s ac ons in the MetaTrader 4 s history. Other parameters will be described herea er in this document. It is not compulsory to input different values since the default parameters correspond to those used by the experienced traders. 8 The GUARDIAN

15 6 Functions of the GUARDIAN 6.1 Moving the GUARDIAN s window It may be cumbersome to have an open window over the stock market rates since it can hide indicators data. To alleviate this problem, a simple click on the posi oning bu on, and the GUARDIAN s window can move to one of the four corners or be hidden. The so ware s func ons are s ll ac ve but there is no more obstruc on of the MetaTrader s window. The posi oning bu on pictogram shows the future posi on of the GUARDIAN s window : At the top, on the le At the top, on the right At the bo om, on the right At the bo om, on the le No display 6.2 Licence The licence validity is checked at the so ware s start up in order to define the available op ons. If the so ware rights are validated, the license type is shown in the upper band. If the so ware rights are not valid, the invalidity informa on is shown in the upper band and the func ons of the so ware are frozen. To regain access to valid rights and get back a func onal so ware, the user must update his account. 6.3 Magic Number The Magic Number allows iden fying robot s ac ons in the MetaTrader s history. It is possible to modify the Magic Number value in the so ware s se ngs in order to not confuse the ac ons with another robot. To allow a quick check of the Magic Number, its value is displayed on the right of the upper band of the main window. 6.4 Connexion The so ware alerts when the account is disconnected using the sign. In case of non connexion, the so ware is incapable of func oning, hence it is impera ve to verify that this pictogramme is not shown. 6.5 Authorised trading MetaTrader 4 allows preven ng so wares from sending trading orders. If MetaTrader 4 blocks the so ware from making orders, the alert is shown. 15 The GUARDIAN

16 To re ac vate the trading via so ware, you need to check in the Allow automa c trading parameter in the GAURDIAN s Common tab (cf. chapter 4). To ac vate trading authorisa on in MetaTrader 4, do the following steps: Open the op ons of the sta on (menu Op ons in the upper band) In the Op ons window, open the Expert Advisors tab Check in Allow automated trading It is also possible to click on the bu on if it is available among the MetaTrader 4 sta on s bu ons. 6.6 Choice of the language of the software This so ware is bilingual and can adapt French or English. A bu on indicates the ac ve language in the main window : If English is the ac ve language of the so ware If French is the ac ve language of the so ware 16 The GUARDIAN

17 By default, the chosen language is English but at any me a simple click on the bu on, and all the display changes. Likewise, all so ware messages will be in the chosen language. 6.7 Alert broadcasting The so ware contains a number of messages to warn about errors, inform about the results or to give advice. The user can choose one or mul ple modes of delivery of the messages. An ac ve mode is indicated on the yellow bu on.. An inac ve mode is indicated on the grey bu on In the main window of the GUARDIAN, the user can choose between three modes of delivery : If this mode is ac vated, all messages will be broadcasted by the alert system of MetaTrader 4 sta on. If this mode is ac vated, all messages will be delivered by (it is necessary to set up an account in the MetaTrader 4 sta on se ngs). If this mode is ac vated, all messages will be broadcasted by the Push no fica on system (it is necessary to set up the no fica on details in the MetaTrader 4 sta on se ngs). Important: If no broadcas ng mode is chosen, the user can miss very important informa on for the account management. 6.8 Position opening autorisation The so ware checks for you the possibility of opening of a posi on by taking into account the current se ngs : Result of the day Available equity Free margin level Spread size Risk size per order StopLoss posi on Number of ac ve orders Number of secured orders All the me spent to check the data is saved. All the calcula ons to define if an order can be open or not take into account the values of available equity, the risk level, the Spread size and the StopLoss posi on. All the risk linked to emo onal side that could drive the user to open an order when all the limits are exceeded is eliminated. If the day result is below the authorized level of loss, no new order is accepted by the so ware. If the free margin required for a new order is not sufficient, the so ware will not authorize it. If the number of open orders is above the limit, a new order will not be authorized. 17 The GUARDIAN

18 6.9 Position size determination The so ware calculates automa cally the lot size for new BUY or SELL posi ons. For example, if you want to open a BUY posi on, a simple click allows to do it while respec ng the programmed level of risk. If the so ware authorizes the opening of a new posi on, the size of lot is displayed inside the BUY or SELL bu on. A simple modifica on of equity, market posi on, StopLoss posi on or risk level and the lot size is updated in real me. Manual input of the lot size using the MetaTrader interface is now over. The me spent for calcula ons using online tools or EXCEL is now over Closing orders The so ware offers the possibility to close all orders with one click : All open orders All pending orders All winning orders All losing orders In the informa on window, it is possible to close orders depending on the type : Close all BUY orders Close all SELL orders If one of closing orders op ons is available, the number of orders is displayed on the corresponding bu on. Thanks to all these closing modes, you can save your me for rapid management of open orders on the market Risk size GUARDIAN is programmed to alert you when the risk choice for an order is above a certain limit. By default, there are two limits: 3% before having a warning message (This is a risk size recommended by the majority of professional traders) 10% before having a danger message (This is such a dangerous risk size that it is difficult to recover a loss at this point) To modify these limits, it is possible to do so in the so ware s se cannot exceed 20%. ngs during installa on on the market. The limits It is possible to modify directly the risk size for a new order in the main window of the GUARDIAN. 18 The GUARDIAN

By default, there are two limits: 10% before having a warning message (This is a loss level that is already too high for the majority of professional traders) 20% before having a danger message (This is an excep onal loss level that should never be reached) It is possible to modify these limits in the so ware s se exceed 20%. ngs during installa on on the market. The limits cannot It is possible to modify the day loss level for a new order directly in the main window of the GUARDIAN. 1 Maximum loss per day value 2 Bu on to increase the maximum loss per day by 0.1% (up to 20% maximum) 3 Bu on to decrease the maximum loss per day by 0.1% (to 0.1% minimum) 4 Alert zone to inform the user of exceeding the programmed limits Display of a fixed for exceeding the first limit Display of a blinking for exceeding the second limit In the informa on window, the day result is displayed along with the maximum loss level authorised. If the result of the day is posi ve or null, the display is in green. If the result of the day is nega ve, the display is in red. The result of the day is cleared down each day at 0:00 (server me). 19 The GUARDIAN

20 6.13 Automatic closing in case of a large day loss The so ware can close all open orders if the level of loss is too big. It is possible to authorize automa c closing in the so ware s se ngs during installa on on the market : 6.14 Free margin management GUARDIAN is programmed to alert you when the choice of the free margin level is below a certain limit. By default, there are two limits: 50% before having a warning message (This is a level of remaining free margin that starts to be risky in case of uncontrolled gap) 20% before having a danger message (This is a very risky level of free margin, and closing few posi ons is highly recommended) It is possible to modify these limits in the so ware s se be inferior of 1%. ngs during the installa on on the market. This limit can be adjusted in the configura on tab : 20 The GUARDIAN

21 It is possible to directly modify the Spread size for a new order in the main window of the GUARDIAN. 1 Maximum spread size value 2 Bu on to increase the spread value by steps of Bu on to decrease the spread value by steps of 0.1 (to 0.1 minimum) During the so ware s installa on, the maximum spread value is ini alized with the current market value Information about next candlestick The so ware displays, in the informa on window, the details about next candles ck. In order to know the start of the next candles ck, the so ware shows the remaining me in the HH:MM:SS format. Moreover, to know the por on of the remaining me with respect to the current me unit, a progressing horizontal bar is displayed at the bo om of the zone. 1 Time remaining before the next candles ck 2 Progression of the current candles ck in rela on to the currently used me unit 6.17 Simultaneous orders restriction The so ware allows restric ng the number of simultaneous non secured orders. By default, the number is of 2 but it is possible to modify this value in the configura on tab : 1 Maximum number of simultaneous non secured orders 2 Bu on to increase the number by steps of 1 3 Bu on to decrease the number by steps of 1 (to 1 minimum) 21 The GUARDIAN

22 6.18 Alert display The alerts concerning the management of the free margin, of the spread and of the day loss level are reported in the main window of the GUARDIAN. For the Spread, the pictogramme is displayed in orange if the spread exceeds the programmed level (cf. 6.15). For the day loss level, the pictogramme is displayed in orange if the level exceeds the limit of WARNING and in red if the level exceeds the limit of DANGEROUS (cf. 6.12). For the free margin, the pictogramme is displayed in orange if the level exceeds the limit of WARNING and in red if the level exceeds the limit of DANGEROUS (cf. 6.14) Overall assessment The so ware provides a quick way to get a global vision of current ac ons. No more pain opening MetaTrader s windows, a look at the bo om of the informa on window of the GUARDIAN allows rapid apprecia on of the ac ons held on the market : 1 Number of ac ve SELL orders on the current market 2 Number of the orders with nega ve result on the current market 3 Number of ac ve BUY orders on the current market 4 Number of the orders with nega ve result on the current market 5 Number of secured orders on the current market 22 The GUARDIAN

23 6.20 Open orders overview The so ware allows hedging and adapts to the chosen me unit. In principle, it is possible to have orders open in opposite direc ons, and the user can choose to manage BUY and SELL orders separately. The informa on window provides the details and ac ons of the BUY and SELL orders : 1 Closing of all open BUY orders on the current market 2 Closing of all open SELL orders on the current market 3 Number of ac ve BUY orders on the current market 4 Number of ac ve SELL orders on the current market 5 Result in pip of the BUY orders on the current market 6 Result in pip of the SELL orders on the current market 7 Result in account currency of the BUY orders on the current market 8 Result in account currency of the SELL orders on the current market 6.21 De ining the position of the StopLoss While using the GUARDIAN, the StopLoss is obligatory, and it is not possible to open an order without such a protec on. The posi on of the Stop can be defined using three different ways : Calcula on of a stop of a fixed size Calcula on of a stop as a func on of the last highest and lowest Manual posi oning by the user By default, the posi on of the stop is calculated using a fixed size of 10 pips. To choose the StopLoss defini on mode, you need to only click on the mode bu on. Each parameter of the mode is saved when the mode is modified in order not to lose me when going back to the preceding mode. It is possible to display or not the details on the chart. By default, the data are displayed. 23 The GUARDIAN

24 A ixed size Stop 1 The ac ve mode bu on with the stop size in pip four the next order 2 Bu on to increase the stop size by steps of 0.1 pip 3 Bu on to decrease the stop size by steps of 0.1 pip (jusqu à 0.1) 4 Bu on to select the default size 5 Bu on of display/no display of the stop level The default size is 10 pips but depending on the market, modifying the size by 0.1 pip can be very long and cumbersome. In order to ease the default size defini on, it is possible to modify it in the configura on tab : 1 The default stop size for the fixed size mode 2 Bu on to increase the stop size by 1 pip 3 Bu on to increase the stop size by 1 pip (un l 1) The display of the fixed size stop is done by a frame around the market rate. It takes into account the spread size and corresponds to the real value of the desired risk level. To make the chart more readable, the GUARDIAN displays the Stop value for each type of order and the Stop size in number of pips. The frame has a fixed size equal to 5 candles cks before and a er the current one. It is only possible to remove the display by using the designated bu on. 24 The GUARDIAN

25 Stop using the highest/lowest 1 The current ac ve mode bu on with the number of candles cks and the highest/lowest addi onal margin 2 Bu on to increase the number of candles cks used to define the highest/the lowest 3 Bu on to decrease the number of candles cks used to define the highest/the lowest (un l 2) 4 Bu on to increase the addi onal margin of the highest/lowest point by steps of 1 pip 5 Bu on to decrease the addi onal margin of the highest/lowest point by steps of 1 pip (un l 0) 6 Bu on to display or not display of the stop level chart details The number of candles cks needed for defining the highest/lowest points is of 12. The margin allows adding to or subtrac ng of extreme points to have a space between the highest/lowest point and the future Stop point. The display of the highest/lowest points is achieved by using a horizontal line that starts from the extreme candles ck (eventually, with margin) and stops 5 candles cks a er the current candles ck. To make the chart easily readable, the GUARDIAN shows the Stop value for each order type and the its size in pips. The horizontal lines are always shown, and the only way to remove their display is to use a specifically designated bu on. 25 The GUARDIAN

26 User de ined Stop 1 The ac ve mode bu on 2 Bu on of display/no display of the stop level chart details By default, the frame size is set to the last known highest/lowest points. The selec on frame display resembles that of a fixed size stop with a difference that the frame is modifiable by the user. It can adapt any size, but the right side is always fixed to the two candles cks ahead of the current one. To make the chart more readable, the GUARDIAN shows the Stop values for each order type and the Stop size in number of pips only if the frame posi on allows the calcula on. The frame is always displayed and selected. It is only possible to hide the display by the designated bu on De ining the position of the Take Pro it When using the GUARDIAN, the Take Profit is not obligatory but an alert is li ed at each posi on that doesn t have a specified objec ve. When the TakeProfit is calculated by the GUARDIAN, its posi on can be defined in an only manner as a func on of the ra o to the StopLoss size. By default, there is no calcula on of TakeProfit, and the main window display shows the following informa on: 26 The GUARDIAN

Each parameter of the mode is saved when the mode is modified in order not to lose me when going back to the previous mode. It is possible to display/not display the data on the chart. 28 The display of the TakeProfit levels posi on is achieved using two short straight lines that start at the level of the current candles ck and end 5 candles cks a er the current one. To make the chart more readable, the GUARDIAN shows the TakeProfit value for each order type and the TakeProfit size in pips. The straight lines are always displayed, and it is only possible to remove their display with the designated bu on De ining the position of the Trailing Stop This op on is not available in the current version De ining the management of the BreakEven When using the GUARDIAN, the management of the BreakEven is done automa cally to allow being free of this permanent concern. However, to allow the user manage this point by his own, the GUARDIAN can only inform him when the me its posi on is secured has come. The BreakEven posi on is calculated according to the desired minimum profit and based on the principle that the user wants only ensure no losing. By default, the BreakEven management is in automa c mode with a 0 pip profit. To choose the BreakEven defini on mode, click on the mode bu on. Each mode parameter is saved when the mode is changed in order not to lose me when going back to the preceding mode. It is possible to display or not the details on the chart. By default, the details are shown Automatic management of the BreakEven 1 The ac ve mode bu on with the desired win size for all ac ve orders on the market 2 Bu on to increase the desired win size by steps of 1 pip 3 Bu on to increase the desired win size by steps of 1 pip (un l 0) 4 Bu on to fix the desired win at zero 5 Bu on of display/no display of the BreakEven level details The default size is of 0 pip but it is difficult to guarantee the result due to constant fluctua ons of the spread. The BreakEven level is actualized at each ck to remain the closest to the stated objec ve. The display of the BreakEven level is achieved using a line linked to the entry point of the related posi on. 28 The GUARDIAN

29 As soon as the BreakEven level is reached and the posi on is secured, the graphic details for this orders are no longer displayed in order to not overcharge the chart. The graphic data are always displayed at 2 candles cks a er the current one. It is possible to delete the display only using the specifically designated bu on Manual management of the BreakEven 1 The ac ve mode bu on 2 Bu on of display/no display of the Stop level details The display of manually managed BreakEven is iden cal to the automa c one, with the only difference which is that the graphic details will be erased only when the posi on has been secured. The BreakEven posi on is calculated with a zero pip profit Chart colours In order to sa sfy the colour display selec on habits of different users, the GUARDIAN allows modifying colours for each data group (StopLoss, TakeProfit, TrailingStop, BreakEven). 30 6.23 Messages Here are the messages you can receive depending on the trigger condition : If the free margin volume reaches the irst limit «Be careful, the free margin is low and you risk approaching the end of the story.» If the free margin volume reaches the second limit «Do be careful, the free margin is very low and it is very dangerous to play on the motorway.» If the day loss reaches the irst limit «The day result is not very pleasant, if you can, close orders and go for a walk in the forest.» If the day loss reaches the second limit «The day result is bad. If this con nues, the Guardian will close yours orders by its own.» If the day loss surpasses the limiting threshold If closing all orders is selected in the configura on: «Maybe it's me to go out and take a deep breath.
