HEALTHCARE AFTER RETIREMENT: FACTS & FIGURES The average 65-year-old couple at the end of 2017 will spend approximately $275,000 to cover their healthcare costs in retirement. By 2040, that cost is expected to increase to $490,000. If you are retired, but not yet eligible for Medicare, your average cost is $13,000 per individual/per year. That does not include family coverage. Long-term care insurance can be very expensive, it is about $3,000 a year per couple. Medicare does NOT cover long-term care. The average nursing home cost is $76,000 a year/$209 per day. Medicare also does NOT cover: dental care, hearing aids, eye exams/glasses/contacts, footcare, acupuncture, care received outside of the U.S. and personal aids.

SOCIAL SECURITY: HOW MUCH WILL I GET WHEN I RETIRE? Log on towww.ssa.gov. Create a my Social Security account. You will be able to access your latest Social Security statement, which gives you an estimate of your retirement benefits, based on work history. Your benefit is based on an average of quarterly earnings over a 35-year work life.

SOCIAL SECURITY: WHEN CAN I START RECEIVING? Year of Birth Full Retirement Age 1942 or earlier 65 years years years & 4-10 months 1960 or later 67 years

SOCIAL SECURITY: WHY SHOULD I WAIT? Your benefits will be different if you claim before or after full-retirement age. You can choose to claim Social Security retirement benefits as early as age 62, or as late as age 70. If you choose to start your Social Security benefits early, your monthly benefit will be permanently reduced. A rule of thumb is if you take your benefit at 62 years, you will receive on average 75% of your monthly full benefit. By waiting until you are 70, you will receive 132% of your full benefit. Every year that you can delay taking your Social Security benefit will earn you approximately an additional 8%.

SOCIAL SECURITY: EXAMPLE Fred is 61 yearsold. His average salary is$70,000. He has worked for 35 years. Standard life expectancy is 81 years. Percentage Change to Benefit $36,108/year Delayed Retirement Credit $19,716/year Actual Reduction 75% $26,856/year 100% 132% AGE 62 AGE 66 AGE 70

CAN YOU REALLY CATCH UP ON RETIREMENT SAVINGS?

CATCH-UP CONTRIBUTIONS: HOW DO THEY WORK? Starting at the age of 50, the IRS allows workers to make catch-up contributions to their 401(k) retirementaccounts. These are bonus contributionsabove the standard limits of $18,000. Catch-up contributions allow savers to contribute an additional $6,000 to a 401(k) up to $24,000 a year.

CATCH-UP CONTRIBUTIONS HOW CAN I MAXIMIZE SAVINGS? #1 Embark on a bold catch-up plan starting right now. #2 Find ways to save as much as you can. #3 Plan to retire later, which will allow more time to save and will delay taking Social Security.

10 TIPS TO PLAN FOR A COMFORTABLE RETIREMENT 1. Leave your retirementsavings alone 2. Keep saving & investing 3. Avoid investment decisions based on emotion or reactions to the market 4. Find low investmentfees 5. Maximize your Social Security payments; delay taking your benefit until age 70 to receive up to 32% more 6. Eliminate debt 7. Prepare an emergencyfund 8. Know your monthly expenses 9. Plan to livelonger 10. Expect the unexpected
