5 Federal Employees Compensation ct (Injury enefits) INJURIES COVERED enefits are provided for disability or death resulting from an injury sustained in the performance of duty. ENEFITS These include medical care and compensation for wage loss due to temporary or permanent disability. DISILITY ENEFIT asic compensation for total disability is two-thirds of the monthly pay. This is increased to three fourths of the monthly pay if the injured employee has a wife or husband, minor child or wholly dependent parent. No compensation is payable for the first three days of wage loss unless the disability exceeds 14 days or the injury results in permanent impairment. n injured employee may use sick or annual leave credited to his account if he so desires in which event compensation does not begin until the expiration of leave. dditional compensation not to exceed $1,500 per month may be paid in cases in which the constant service of an attendant is necessary. Traumatic disability benefits are payable up to 45 days. TIME LIMITTIONS Written report of injury must be given within 30 days to the employee s immediate superior and claim for disability or death compensation must be filed within 3 years. Retirement fter Meeting General ge and Service Requirements CSRS Standard retirement benefits under CSRS generally are available to workers at age 55 with 30 years of creditable service, or at age 60 with 20 years, or at 62 with five years. FERS enefits under FERS are payable to workers at age 60 with 20 years of service, or at age 62 with 5 years of service. Generally benefits are also available after 30 years of creditable service at the minimum retirement age (MR), which is age 55, until the year 2003, when it begins to climb by two months per year in coordination with the gradual rise in the age of unreduced benefits under Social Security. Thus, the MR reaches age 56 in 2009, where it remains through 2020; beginning in 2021 will resume rising by two months per year, until it reaches age 57 in the year Special Groups CSRS Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers can retire at age 50 with 20 years of service. However, after 20 years of service, retirement is mandatory at age 55 for Firefighters and age 57 for Law Enforcement Officers. ir Traffic Controllers can retire at age 50 with 20 years of service or at any age after 25 years of service. No Decrease in Coverage Your benefits can never be reduced. Your policy amount does not decrease as you get older. Guaranteed Renewable s long as your premiums are paid on time, your policy will remain in force and cannot be canceled. Portable Coverage You are purchasing an individual policy you own the policy, not your employer. Which means that this coverage stays with you if you change jobs or retire. Globe Story Since 1951, millions of mericans have entrusted their insurance needs to Globe Life, and that number is growing every day. Globe has become a tradition in some families, with many second and even third generation policies in force. We provide a wide range of affordable life and health products and services designed to fit the needs of people from all walks of life. In 1972, Globe Life nd ccident Insurance Company discovered a need for civil service employees to supplement their life insurance benefits. s a result, Globe Life formed Employee Services Division (ESD) its Federal Market Division, and has developed special life and health insurance products to continually meet those needs. Through Globe Life s supplemental insurance program, civil service members and their families can purchase insurance protection designed to pick up where FEGLI leaves off. You already have life insurance coverage through your job with the Federal Government that is paid for with contributions made by both your employer and you. This group insurance policy is owned by your employer, and when you leave or retire, that coverage ends. You may also have purchased additional optional coverage that, although paid for in total by you, still terminates upon your departure from the Federal Government. You can purchase these same coverages yourself on an individual basis, but you need to qualify according to your age and health at that time. Your premiums, based on your age and health at that time, could be cost prohibitive. If you purchase Globe Life s supplemental life insurance coverage now, while you are still young and healthy, you lock in coverage at lower rates. Globe Life policies do not replace your existing employer-provided life insurance, or any other life insurance coverage you may have. Our policies supplement the security you already have in place. *Subject to certain limitations not available to individual is who are HIV positive or terminally ill. ** If applicant has certain preexisting medical conditions, policy will be issued with graded benefits: initial policy benefit is 25%; second year is 50%; third year is 75%; fourth year and thereafter is 100%. 17
