3 Chair s Foreword As with the past 10 years, Moroccan Youth UK have been able to provide families with what they need most, including funds for rent, monthly food packages, medication prescriptions and educational tuition, Ramadan packages and sheep to celebrate Eid AlAdha. I will never be able to express my full thanks and gratitude to all the donors and supporters who have maintained their commitment to support those in need. Thank you. 4 Moroccan Youth UK s aims Moroccan Youth UK (MY UK) was set up in 2007 as an independent charitable organisation to benefit vulnerable people living in poverty in Morocco. The fundraising charity has two projects; the Shelter Project and the Bright Future Project. The charity is governed by a board of Trustees and is a volunteer led organisation. MY UK Shelter Project The Shelter Project is based in Sefrou, but delivers projects in a number of different villages. The project aims to improve the quality of life and help alleviate some of the social issues affecting vulnerable people in Morocco. MY UK aims to support the most vulnerable in society such as the elderly, unwell, orphans and/ or single mothers. The outputs from this project are funded through MY UK fundraising events and donations from individual sponsors. The project s aims are to: provide monthly food parcels to sponsored families, ensure orphaned and children in need are able to receive basic education through school equipment and tuition, provide housing for those unable to pay rent, assist with any medical costs that those in need may be liable to, provide Iftaar every day of Ramadan, donate clothes to those most in need of them, provide Udhiyat Eid Al-Adha and provide financial aid to the building of wells in impoverished areas, where water is inaccessible and limited. MY UK Bright Future Project The Bright Future Project enables the charity to benefit young people living in the UK. Our aim is to empower young people with confidence and skills that will support them to play a constructive role in British society. Increasingly, our focus has been towards the Shelter Project, however Moroccan Youth UK Trustees have been able to personally contribute towards the fulfilment of these aims through trusteeship within the organisation Nida Trust. Nida Trust is an educational charity that aims to raise aspirations in young people. Nida Trust also has a key focus in empowering and supporting teaching leadership to benefit young people. Events that the Trust have organised to celebrate achievements include the Rising Stars Awards and the Teachers Creativity and Innovation Awards. 4

7 Distribution of donations Donations are distributed on a needs by basis as decided by the board of Trustees. MY UK uphold a transparent and efficient monitoring system whereby vulnerable individuals and families are identified and their needs and circumstances assessed and reviewed on an ongoing basis. MY UK s Treasurer makes frequent trips to Morocco to visit sponsored families to ensure there have been no changes to circumstances. The Treasurer also regularly meets with the providers such as food wholesalers and pharmacies who supply aid like medication and food packages to ensure they continue to work in keeping with our agreements. The cultural and social context of Morocco is very important when deciding how to distribute the funds raised. Ramadan and Eid Al-Adha are key events in the year that most Moroccans partake in. In order to ensure that identified families in need are also able to celebrate and commemorate these annual occasions, the provision of Ramadan food packages and Udhiyat Eid Al-Adha are a significant and essential output provided by MY UK. For the financial year , money raised from sponsored donations have been used to fund the charity s projects, which include: benefiting c.60 families with monthly food packages consisting of sugar, flour, oil and other necessities providing 600 families in Larache, Bir TamTam and Sefrou with Ramadan food packages providing rent for 4 single mothers, widows and their children providing Udhiyat Eid Al-Adha (meat for the purpose of celebrating the muslim festival of Eid) for over 40 families in Larache and Sefrou providing regular medication for over 70 ill individuals providing Arabic, French and Physics tuition for c.30 students providing activity trips to Ifrane for over 40 children providing Quranic classes to over 30 children and over 60 women in Sefrou providing school equipment for 20 school children providing warm clothing to remote villages in Morocco in Sefrou and surrounding regions providing Ramadan Iftar for c.80 individuals every night of Ramadan (c.2400 meals) providing clothing, food packages and medical procedures for 36 children and their families (khatana procedure). MY UK members made an extended visit to Morocco this year to ensure that all money being spent is in line with our constitution. The charity continues to welcome interested sponsors to visit the families that benefit from donations and fundraising efforts. The next pages showcases some of the work that donations have paid towards, such as clothing donations, school equipment, food packages, Udhiyat Eid ul Adha, Ramadan Iftaar and tuition classes. 7
