2 Message from the Executive Director Dear Friends, I invite you to not just browse, but read each page to see the accomplishments of Citizens Development Center in ! You will see we have touched the lives of 526 adults with disabilities, but remember behind each of those numbers is an individual. Each person we served may have received a job, paycheck, job coaching, life skills training, encouragement to grow, increased self-esteem, pre-employment preparation, hat, boots, bus pass, clean shirt, or some roman noodles when they forgot their lunch. Our Work Center Program provided training and assembly work to 258 adults with disabilities this year - a 7% increase over last year! Our Split Day Habilitation Program doubled this year to provide extra training and support to our clients who struggled to focus for a full work day. The half day split program offers a half-day of classroom based life skills instruction and a half day of work sorting hangers in the work center. We have seen an increase in positive behaviors and their work production has doubled. We also experienced a 20% growth in our Employment Placement Services Program through our relationships with over 90 companies in the DFW Metroplex. We provided employment resources to 268 adults with disabilities, resulting in 82 adults placed in jobs, of which 50% were veterans with disabilities. Our focus in 2016 is to increase placements by at least another 20%, resulting in employing over 100 adults with disabilities in the DFW Metroplex. Of course with accomplishments also come challenges. Thus, in the coming year we will continue to prioritize forming relationships with companies that not only have large volume packaging and assembly needs, but value the work that can be done by our clients. We will also continue to focus on our Dash for Dignity signature event to bridge the gap between funding versus expenses, as well as prioritize a focus on major donor cultivation. Please know we couldn t have served over 500 adults with disabilities this year without the help of our donors, business partners, over 500 volunteers, our board and our staff that collaboratively worked together to help change lives one job at a time. 3 Citizens Development Center touches lives daily through primarily three main programs. Caring and Serving DAY HABILITATION Day habilitation focuses on personal and social development for adults with developmental disabilities. Operating within our safe and structured environment, training and support enhances living skills, coordination and social activity. These services pair with Work Center programs to provide functional and job skills that maximize client self-advocacy with employment. It also offers respite support and employment time for family members and caregivers. WORK CENTER PROGRAM The Work Center program provides multiple levels of vocational training and support, life and job skills training, and social programming. Clients receive instruction, guidance and feedback that prepares them for, and sustains them within, a work setting. They also get real-time, paid employment in CDC s 30,000 square foot warehouse. EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM The Employment Program functions as both a training ground and a supportive job placement agency. CDC works with the business community to identify job opportunities appropriate for clients. Case managers and support staff help clients with interview skills, application assistance, skills coach-

4 Testimonies My biggest fear while Jamie was growing up was what would we do with her after she graduated from school. Citizens Development Center was our answer. CDC gives Jamie a job to go to each day that she loves. She also gets continuing education and a chance to be with friends that she enjoys. Jamie is very proud of the paycheck she earns. CDC gives Carl and me the comfort of knowing Jamie is safe and happy the biggest gift anyone can give us. Becky Bates and Jaime Gina has been at Citizens Development Center for more than 10 years. During this time, she has become more independent she knows how to shop for groceries, help around the house, and she communicates more clearly. CDC has impacted our entire family. I am a single parent who is able to work full time. Gina is improving each day in CDC s caring, nurturing environment. Lourdes Garza and Gina
