5 OUR APPROACH Collaboration Utilizing transactional claims data, a third party (in cooperation with you) will analyze your plan design performance and identify strengths and weaknesses. 6 Dispensing Fees CharterRx s affiliated Central Dispensing Pharmacies charge a dispensing fee that is lower than the average dispensing fee found in other plans and includes FREE overnight delivery.* Ingredient Costs MAXIMIZE YOUR SAVINGS Make Your Benefit Dollars Work Better for You and Your Plan Members using Central Dispensing Pharmacies (CDPs). CharterRx s affiliated CDPs abilities to reduce their operating costs through lower overheads allow them to minimize markups on ingredients. Dispensing Practices If a medication is required long term for a chronic condition then why fill a 30-day supply? CharterRx s affiliated CDPs encourage 90-day supplies consistent with plan design coverage and prescriber instructions. The result: a reduction in total yearly dispensing fees. The pharmacy can collaborate with the prescriber to increase quantities where it is in the patient s best interests to do so, thus reducing total dispensing fees. Therapeutic Alternatives A Therapeutic Alternative is another drug product (often generic) that is in the same (or a similar) drug class to the brand drug in question, treats the same disease state(s), and has a similar clinical record of safety and effectiveness that can be proven in the medical literature. Pharmacists cannot unilaterally change a prescribed drug to a therapeutic alternative; the prescriber must authorize the alternative. CharterRx affiliated CDPs pay close attention to medications that have therapeutic alternatives. The pharmacist discusses options with plan members and then dialogues with the plan member s doctor to achieve the best treatment option for the plan member. 9 Our affiliated Central Dispensing Pharmacies are fully accredited. For many years, our affiliated pharmacy providers have served all of Canada using central dispensing locations. They have demonstrated a commitment to the highest standards of reliability and professional service. Using a CDP is easy. Prescriptions are transmitted to the pharmacy using one of three methods: Fax Directly from the prescriber s office (prescriber retains original prescription in patient s chart) By Telephone Prescriber calls verbal prescription into pharmacy* Mail Patient mails the original prescription to the pharmacy As with any pharmacy, upon receipt of an initial prescription, a pharmacist initiates dialogue with the patient to acquire personal information necessary to safely dispense the prescription.
