9 Child Support Services Making a difference for parents Free legal services to obtain child support Government helps get the child support Registers all applicable orders and agreements with Maintenance Enforcement program Child support will help families become or stay selfreliant Child Support Services Making a difference for parents Eligibility for services is income tested Phone Child Support services for more information: Find them on our website: Click on Family Supports Tab then find Child Support on the left side Income Support (IS) program The IS program provides financial assistance to persons who are unable to meet their needs for food, shelter, personal, health and other items essential to their health and well-being. 9

11 Income Support and Benefit Structure Budget Requirements Core Income Support: (Core Essential, Core Shelter) Supplementary Other IS payments or benefits Available Financial Resources IS IESA: Income Support Income Support Core benefits Core Essential: basic living costs including food, personal items, telephone and transportation Core Shelter: shelter related costs including rent, mortgage, utilities, taxes Income Support Supplementary benefits Provide additional funds to help clients with specific needs Continuous supplementary benefits Helps with on going monthly costs such as special diets, child care or medical transportation Non-Continuous supplementary benefits For one time or short term needs such as Utility Connection or supports to help clients look for work 11

12 Emergency Benefits A severe emergency exists that presents a health or safety risk Situation occurred due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the client s control They don t have access to other resources to meet their need Must meet other income support eligibility criteria Supplementary benefits for victims of domestic violence Escaping abuse allowance to help establish a new residence Damage Deposit Relocation Allowance Personal Benefit for telephone and transportation Personal Allowance while in an emergency shelter Emergency transportation Working while on Income Support Clients on income support who are employed receive income exemptions so they are better off financially if they are working 12
