6 Training for Work Occupationally focused training Enables clients to get a job, substantially improve their employment situation or adapt to changing labour conditions and skill requirements in order to sustain employment Wide variety of programs and opportunities More information on AE&I website Alberta Job Corps Helps Albertans who are having trouble finding or maintaining employment Temporary employment program Employer partnerships Alberta Job Corps Up to 26 weeks of employment services to broaden skills which may include: Employment counselling or life management skills Occupational training in areas such as computer skills, basic carpentry and dry walling Opportunity for certifications such as CPR, first aid, bobcat, forklift and more 6

9 Child Support Services Making a difference for parents Free legal services to obtain child support Government helps get the child support Registers all applicable orders and agreements with Maintenance Enforcement program Child support will help families become or stay selfreliant Child Support Services Making a difference for parents Eligibility for services is income tested Phone Child Support services for more information: Find them on our website: Click on Family Supports Tab then find Child Support on the left side Income Support (IS) program The IS program provides financial assistance to persons who are unable to meet their needs for food, shelter, personal, health and other items essential to their health and well-being. 9

12 Emergency Benefits A severe emergency exists that presents a health or safety risk Situation occurred due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the client s control They don t have access to other resources to meet their need Must meet other income support eligibility criteria Supplementary benefits for victims of domestic violence Escaping abuse allowance to help establish a new residence Damage Deposit Relocation Allowance Personal Benefit for telephone and transportation Personal Allowance while in an emergency shelter Emergency transportation Working while on Income Support Clients on income support who are employed receive income exemptions so they are better off financially if they are working 12
