6 FEBRUARY THE ROLE OF THE DOLLAR IN EMERGING MARKETS Roundtable with Steve Hanke, Professor of Applied Economics, Johns Hopkins University 12 February, New York As the Federal Reserve raises rates, the global impact of the dollar s position can be seen to crystalise in emerging economies like Argentina and Turkey. Steve Hanke will discuss the effects of US monetary policy on emerging markets and the dollar s role. CENTRAL BANKS AND SUPERVISORY TECH A seminar on strengthening financial stability 15 February, London This seminar brings together central bankers, supervisors, private sector market participants and financial regulatory experts. They will discuss how the use of new technology in regulation and supervision could enhance and provide financial stability for the future. THE FUTURE OF ESG DATA: INTEGRATING SUSTAINABLE FINANCE INTO CAPITAL MARKETS OMFIF-Standard & Poor s global roundtable February, London A discussion examining the next generation of ESG models and the benefits for investors, issuers and asset managers. The discussion analyses the strength of the data, methodology and key features, as well as the benefits and challenges of ESG investing. UNLOCKING ISLAMIC FINANCE Roundtable discussion on innovation and sustainability for Islamic finance February, London As the Middle East grows in economic importance, so does Islamic finance. 8 MARCH EUROPEAN LAUNCH OF THE GENDER BALANCE INDEX Launch and panel discussion celebrating International Women s Day 7 March, London LECTURE OMFIF is launching the sixth annual Gender Balance Index, which tracks the presence of men and women in senior positions at central banks, sovereign funds and public pension funds. The launch includes a keynote presentation and panel discussion on the findings of the research. CHINA AND THE US IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY Seminar on the economic and political developments in US-China relations March, New York Trade tensions between China and the US are having mixed effects on the global economy. Classifying and regulating crypto-assets remains contentious among policy-makers, as does the role of central bank digital currencies in global finance. BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVE: NAVIGATING A NEW ERA OF INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT Seminar discussing navigating belt and road initiatives in the context of furthering environmental, social and governance initiatives 17 April, London Bringing together policy-makers and private sector investors, this seminar will focus on navigating regulation and governance attached to China-led Belt and Road projects, especially regarding how to implement, assess and manage environmental, social and governance initiatives. With the structural challenges facing European monetary union, this seminar examines the benefits and risks of joining the euro. ASSESSING GENDER BALANCE IN FINANCE LECTURE Gender Balance Index launch in collaboration with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund April, Washington In collaboration between OMFIF, the World Bank and IMF, this meeting highlights the importance of gender balance in public and private financial institutions and sets out how gender diversity can be achieved in a historically male-dominated field. 12 JUNE DIGITAL CURRENCY OPPORTUNITIES FOR AFRICAN CENTRAL BANKS Seminar assessing the opportunities and risks associated with central banks adopting digital currencies 4-5 June, Pretoria This meeting discusses opportunities for central banks arising from cryptocurrencies. The role of digital currencies and how best to regulate them is at the forefront of debate, from combating corruption with blockchain technology to simplifying payment systems. 12
