Dow Jones Industrial 25, NASDAQ S&P/TSX Composite 15, WTI Oil $ WCS Oil $ We love the BNN commentator who compared Donald Trump to an emperor. He is not acting presidential at all, acting more like an emperor and at his beck and call, trade wars have started, trade wars have ended, best friends in the international community are threatened one day and made to feel ever so comfortable the next. It is as scary as a world can be and then of course, there's our own Trudeau...and if Trump is an emperor, Trudeau has to be called an empress. With all the things going on in the world and the problems developing in Canada, Trudeau seems to have only two issues on his plate. Climate change and female empowerment. Meanwhile, over the weekend we are starting to get more numbers as to the size of the auto industry in Ontario and the number that seems to be commonly used is $20 billion. That's the size of the auto industry in Canada folks...and meanwhile, the size of the oil and gas industry in Canada? $120 billion. But we know where Trudeau spends all his time. Also, all of a sudden, there are a couple of Albertans suggesting that they've had enough. We thought we would print the writings of Robert Iverach in his latest issue so you can get a taste of some of the thinking Hi All (The Group of 2,900+ and growing): dave.pescod@plant4seeds.com debbie.lewis@plant4seeds.com 1
THE ONGOING PROBLEM! Alberta s Western Canadian Select oil ("WCS ) is selling at only US$10.42 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate ( WTI ) is selling for US$50.72 per barrel. The Differential (or Discount) is still US$ In other words, Canada is currently selling its WSC, mainly to the US, for 20.5% of the WTI price or a discount of 79.5%!! Every day, Canada is losing about $100 million per day because of federal inaction on pipelines. Since our of October 24, 2018, that running total is: $3.9 BILLION! In the next 12 months, this will total $36.5 BILLION!!! ALBERTA - IT IS TIME TO GO IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION! I have been a tax lawyer for over 45 years and think of myself as a reasonable Albertan and Canadian. So what I am about to say may shock you, but it has to be said for the good of Alberta! And if you wish to Unsubscribe, so be it. I woke up this morning realizing that Albertans have stood back and watched as pipeline after pipeline got cancelled, energy workers were laid off and thousands of them moved out of Alberta, investment capital fled the province (and now the country), Calgary s once booming downtown has been hollowed out with vacancies in the 30% - 40% range, smaller companies are barely hanging on and going out of business, and on and on! Six months ago, Albertans constantly talked about Canada's disastrous Transfer Payment System, which the federal government just extended for five (5) years without any provincial consultations. Not anymore! Today, Albertans are just trying to survive! When GM announced the closing of its Oshawa plant and the laying off of 2,500 workers, the federal government fawned all over this tragedy - fair enough. But when Andrew Scheer in the House of Commons asked the Prime Minister about why he had not commented on all the lost jobs in Alberta, the Prime Minister pivoted to slam Doug Ford for cancelling some French While information and opinions expressed in this publication are believed to have been gathered from reliable sources, we accept no liability for actions that you might take in response to the material presented. 3 services in Ontario. It is Dow Jones Ind. apparent that the Prime Minister (and his government) could care less about the problems in Alberta. He is attempting to fi n i s h w h a t h i s f a t h e r started in 1980 but could not complete! Both the Prime Minister and his Principal Secretary, Gerald Butts (past President of the World Wildlife Fund Canada and a staunch supporter of the US funded The Tar Sands Campaign ) have talked about phasing out the fossil fuel industry in Canada (read Alberta). Now with the federal government s indifference, it is happening faster than they could have ever dreamed. Funny, but they have never talked about phasing out the auto industry or the aerospace industry, both of which are dwarfed by our energy industry? Today, Canada is not only broken - it is totally broken! Confederation may still work for Ontario and Quebec, but under confederation, resource rich Alberta has become a mere colony of Eastern Canada. The East wants the cash benefits that come from Alberta but is not prepared to contribute to the creation of those benefits. Alberta has become Canada s Little Red Hen. Albertans have not asked Ottawa for the kinds of handouts that immediately go to eastern workers who lose jobs or to aerospace companies that are in financial trouble. All that S&P/TSX Composite Albertans have asked is for government is to Get out of the way so we can build, develop and prosper as a province! But no. The unelected eco-gang in Ottawa has taken control of our federal government and if they have their way, Alberta s energy industry will continue its steady decline at a time when world demand is on the increase. If you know anyone who would like to receive any of our four newsletters, please Debbie at debbie.lewis@plant4seeds.com dave.pescod@plant4seeds.com debbie.lewis@plant4seeds.com 3
Over the past 10 years Alberta has paid to Ottawa in aggregate tax payments $240 Billion more than it has received from Ottawa. That surplus has been used by Ottawa as a slush fund to subsidize the economies of Quebec and several other provinces, all at a time when Alberta is running a deficit. In e f f e c t, A l b e r t a s f u t u r e generations will be burdened with repaying a large provincial debt used to support the current lifestyles of those living in those provinces. This must change as it is unsustainable! Canada desperately needs Alberta! Alberta does not need Canada! So the time has come for Alberta to put the separation referendum option on the table when dealing with Ottawa and the rest of Canada. We cannot continue to let our political leaders refuse to even raise the topic, because that leaves Alberta negotiating with Ottawa and the rest of Canada with both hands tied behind its back. Whether a separation referendum would pass or not (or if it did, what we would then do) is not the issue. Alberta is being left out of the benefits of confederation, but is being forced to bear far more than its fair share of the burdens. The time for action from our Alberta politicians (whether elected or hoping to be) is now! We have a chat with Bob Iverach today and again, he states, If the oil sands were in Quebec, you would see pipelines running everywhere To get on Robert Iverach s list, biverach@mac.com. dave.pescod@plant4seeds.com debbie.lewis@plant4seeds.com 4
WHAT DO YOU THINK? These are extraordinary times in Alberta and we are totally lacking support of any kind from Trudeau and Ottawa! If given a chance, would you vote to separate? Yes No dave.pescod@plant4seeds.com debbie.lewis@plant4seeds.com 5
Please Debbie at if you have any comments you would like to share on this. Just as a reminder TOTAL Lifetime Equalization Payouts: Just in case you didn t notice Payments to: Quebec: $198 Billion over the years or 50.5% of every dollar in transfer payments to the welfare bum - Quebec. New Brunswick picked up $43 Billion Nova Scotia picked up $44 Billion Please notice!!! For Alberta, that is not a B.that s a M dave.pescod@plant4seeds.com debbie.lewis@plant4seeds.com 6
