1 Asia Gold Fund INTRODUCTION Asia Gold Fund is created by CAM (Creative Asset Management AG. CAM s managers are highly experienced and manage assets across a range of financial markets, delivering effective investment management solutions for our clients, optimizing capital returns vis-à-vis the risks. CAM was founded by Mr. Kurt Schaefer, an astute and successful trader of both floorbased financial instruments and electronic markets. THE VARIOUS STRATEGIES OF ASIA GOLD The core of the investment strategy is capital safety via the fund s largest allocation of 40% total capital towards physical gold. 30% of capital will be allocated diversification in the form of investments into Asian (ex- Japan) equities. This is to take advantage of the long term high-growth potential offered by Asia, led by the dynamic economies of Greater China, followed by India, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia 30% of capital will be allocated to futures, options, and foreign exchange (forex). CAM s fund managers can use this allocation to hedge against adverse movements by Gold prices and Asian equities & forex on the downside. 2 CAM s view on gold is long-term bullish. The unprecedented fiscal & monetary efforts in 2008/09 to stimulate growth in the USA have led to deterioration in the Fed s balance sheet (chart 1), leading to real concerns about the sustainability of the value of the US currency. The mounting US debt is bumping up against a dismal employment picture, a toxic mix for holders of US treasuries who are mainly Asian central banks. As US dollar weakened, gold prices rose. This has led to investors like China s central bank (+450 tons since 2003), individuals and institutions scurrying to increase their gold holdings via ETF in their portfolios as highlighted by India s central bank recent $6.7b purchase of gold from IMF, thereby boosting its gold reserves by 50%. This Indian s gold purchase could begin a bidding war among other Asian central banks like China, Japan and Korea for the other 200 metric tons tranche of IMF s gold that was approved for sale. 4 ASIA EQUITIES OUTLOOK CAM is also bullish on Asia long-term. Once the most economically-vibrant region in the world, Asia is set to regain this status again in the near future through the economic rise of colossal China and India. China has been the fastest growing economy in the past 10 years and has recently posted a near 9% GDP growth in the third quarter. A major part of its $700b stimulus package has been spent to spread economic growth from its current economic centers in the coastal cities into its interior regions. In India, the government now realizes that they have to play catch-up with China s progress or they will be left behind, thus resulting in policy changes in favor of businesses. Fast growth has seen GDP rising in China at 8% and in India at 5%, as compared to developed countries GDP growth of 1.5%-to-2%. The rest of Asia has been pulled along as the more developed emerging Asian countries like Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore & Hongkong have found new markets to export finished & intermediate products, and, even the less developed Asian countries like Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia and even Australia have found new markets for their resources like oil, gas, agricultural produce, iron ores and minerals. Looking at these countries trade data, one often finds China or India as their largest trade partners. RISK MANAGEMENT CAM will employ a state of the art, real time risk management system in order to continuously view market exposures for each trader as well as for the overall portfolio. This will provide a clear picture of the fund s risk profile on a real time basis.
