1 Overview Vattenfall at a glance Vattenfall at a glance Vattenfall is one of Europe s largest generators of electricity and the largest producer of heat. Electricity generation and sales of heat amounted to TWh and 3.2 TWh, respectively, in 213. Vattenfall has approximately 6.2 million electricity customers, 4.3 million electricity network customers and 1.9 million gas customers. The Group has approximately 31,8 employees. The Parent Company, Vattenfall AB, is 1%-owned by the Swedish state, and its headquarters are in Solna, Sweden. Starting on 1 January 214 Vattenfall is organised in two regions: Nordic and Continental/UK. 2 Overview Results 213 Results 213 Net sales rose 2.6% to SEK 171,684 million (167,313). The underlying operating profit 1 rose 1.3% to SEK 27,9 million (27,53). Operating profit amounted to SEK -6,453 million (25,958). As a result of poorer market conditions and higher business risks, Vattenfall recognised SEK 3.1 billion in impairment losses in 213, which were charged against operating profit. Return on capital employed was -2.1%. Excluding items affecting comparability, the return on capital employed was 9.2%. Electricity generation increased by 1.6%, to TWh (178.9). For the nuclear power operations, with generation of 51.9 TWh, 213 was the second-best year since the start of operations nearly 4 years ago. Comments Vattenfall s earnings vary sharply during the year.
