A1 - Building Construction, Fire Protection and Basic Hazards (4 day course) (March 25, 26, 27 & 28) This 4 day course will provide an overview of current types of building construction, common fire hazards, methods of fire detection and types of fire protection. The practical, hands-on approach will improve your understanding of risk analysis and provide you with essential information that you can apply on a day-to-day basis, whether you are involved in claims, underwriting or loss prevention. You will review different types of industrial processes, learn how to assess various associated hazards and gain insight into effective methods of protecting against costly losses. The knowledge gained in risk assessment and loss control will assist you in improving underwriting profitability. Those who would benefit most would include fire protection engineers, loss prevention inspectors, insurance underwriters, brokers and risk managers. 4 A3 - Liability Loss Prevention (3 day course) (May 27, 28 & 29) This 3 day course will improve your understanding of liability hazards and offer solutions to complex and potentially costly liability loss exposures in today s litigious society. You will learn how to protect against unforeseen losses and minimize unavoidable risks. Using case studies, you will learn valuable techniques to help you make informed decisions in your daily work. Those who would benefit most from attending this course include underwriters, loss prevention personnel, claims handlers and adjusters and risk managers. Depending on the topics covered, courses will vary in length from one to three days. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basic origins of sprinkler systems to the wide variety of fire protection systems utilized today. Fire code and NFPA test requirements will be discussed including test frequency, procedures and relevancy. Students will complete sample calculations on high piled storage, rack storage and review water supplies, including how they are affected by factors such as friction loss and elevation. 5 Solid Fuel Burning Appliances (1/2 day seminar) (April 17-8:30 am - 1:30 pm) This 1/2- day seminar will provide Brokers, Agents and Underwriters alike with a detailed review of wood heat. Emphasis will be directed toward safety concerns, code compliance and a hands-on approach to this viable heat source. The knowledge obtained from this session will allow participants to better understand the workings of a solid fuel burning system and provide confidence to make informed underwriting decisions. 6 Fuel Storage Tanks (1/2 day seminar) (April 30-8:30 am - 1:30 pm) This 1/2- day seminar will provide Brokers, Agents, and Underwriters with an insurance perspective of domestic fuel storage tanks, giving insight into failures that not only affect the environment, but also property owners and insurance companies. Proper installation of domestic oil tanks, as well as, propane tanks will be reviewed. Topics for discussion will include signs of deterioration, code compliance, proper installation and potential exposure to the insurer.
