1 Leave FAQs Pfizer Limited / Pfizer Pharmaceutical India Pvt. Ltd. / Pfizer Products India Pvt. Ltd. 1) What is the Leave Cycle? A) The Annual Leave cycle is Jan to Dec of any year. (Calendar Year) 2) What are the different kinds of Leave I am entitled to while working with the organization? A) Following types of leave are available with the organization: Privilege Leave(PL), Sick Leave (SL) and Casual Leave (CL), Maternity Leave (only for female colleagues). 3) Can I take half day Casual Leave? A) Yes.Casual Leave can be availed from a minimum of ½ day to a maximum of 3 days. 4) I joined the organization on August 1, How many Casual leaves am I entitled to? A) Casual Leave entitlement is 8 days annually and it is credited pro-rata (in the year of joining) from the date of joining. For e.g. If you join on August 1 st, the number of Casual Leaves that you will be entitled to for that year is 3 days 5) I joined the organization on August 1, 2011.How many Sick Leaves am I entitled to? A) Sick Leave annual entitlement is 15 days and it is credited pro-rata from the date of joining. For e.g. If you have joined on August ( say August 1 st ), the number of Sick Leaves that you will be entitled to for that year is 6 days. 6) My Sick Leave balance is exhausted? Can I combine the Sick Leave with my Casual Leave? A) No. Sick Leave cannot be combined with Casual Leave. However Sick Leave can be combined with Privilege Leave. 7) What happens if I do not submit a medical certificate when I take Sick Leave? A) Medical certificate should be produced when leave is taken for more than 2 days. In case a medical certificate is not submitted the leave will get adjusted against the Privilege Leave. 1

2 8) Can I take half day Sick Leave? A) Yes, half day Sick Leave can be taken. 9) Can Sick Leave be accumulated? A) Yes Sick Leave can be accumulated to a maximum of 75 days. 10) Will intervening Public Holidays and Weekend offs be considered while availing of Sick Leave / Casual Leave? A) Yes, Public Holidays and Weekend offs intervening the holiday period will be considered while availing of Sick Leave or Casual Leave 11) Can Sick Leave be encashed? A) No, Sick Leave cannot be encashed 12. What type of Leave is encashable? A) Only Privilege Leave is encashable. 13. How many Privilege leave am I entitled to and when? A) Privilege leave entitlement is 30 days in a calendar year and is accrued to a person only on completion of one year of service 14. Is there a facility of Advance Privilege Leave? A) There is no facility of Advance Privilege Leave. 15. Can I accumulate Privilege Leave? A) Yes. The maximum accumulation is 90 days for colleagues who have joined after April I have joined the company in 2005, what is the Privilege Leave accumulation limit? A) Your Privilege Leave accumulation limit is 180 days. 16. When can I encash my Privilege Leave? A) You can request for encashment of Privilege Leave only if you have a balance of minimum 40 days of leave. Encashment can be done every year. 17. Please explain the rules to encash Privilege Leave. 2

3 A. - You should have a minimum of 40 days Privilege Leave at the time of requesting encasment - You should avail of 10 days Privilege Leave during the year - You may encash only upto a maximum of 50 % of your Privilege Leave balance once a year Example: Colleague has 40 days Privilege Leave Applies for 10 days Privilege Leave Balance = 30 days Privilege Leave Can encash maximum of = 15 days Privilege Leave 18. I had availed 5 days Privilege Leave in April, I now want to avail 5 days Privilege Leave, can I encash my Privilege Leave? A. Yes you may encash Privilege Leave. 19. I have joined on 1 st July 2010.When would I be eligible for Privilege Leave and how much PL would I get? A) You will be eligible for 30 days Privilege Leave in the month of July 2011.Also in Jan 2012 you will get additional PL of 15 days. So if you do not consume any PL in 2010, you will have a balance of 45 days PL on Jan 1 st Please let me know if intervening Public Holidays and Weekend offs will be considered while availing Privilege Leave? A. Intervening Public Holidays (list of holidays published by the organization every year) will not be considered. However, Saturday and Sunday will be considered. 21. What is the quantum of Maternity leave? A) Maternity Leave can be taken by female colleagues only. The Entitlement is 84 calendar days, per confinement Entitlement is after a minimum of six month s service Entitlement only on two occasions during service with the Company 22. For Sick Leave and Casual Leave what do you mean by Pro-rata credit from date of joining? A) This criteria is applicable to a new employee and means that Sick Leave and Casual Leave is proportionately available for e.g. if a person joins the organization on 1 st July, 2011, then the Casual Leave available to him/her is 4 days and Sick Leave available to him/her is 7.5 days for When can one avail Casual Leave? 3

4 A. In case of work of personal nature, emergency etc one can avail Casual Leave. For availing Casual Leave one needs to take prior approval of his/her supervisor. 25. When can one avail Sick Leave? A. This leave can be availed if one falls sick. No prior permission is required for this leave. However, one needs to provide a medical certificate issued by a competent Medical Practitioner if the leave is for more than 2 days. One also needs to provide all the medical prescriptions, pathological reports, X- ray etc if the illness is prolonged. The Medical Certificates & other reports if any needs to be attached along with the leave application & forwarded to his/her Manager. The Manager should be informed about the sickness as soon as possible. 26. Can I encash 5 days Privilege Leave? A. No, you are required to encash a minimum of 10 days Privilege Leave. 27. Why is Privilege Leave also referred to as earned leave? A. Privilege Leave is credited for the previous year service i.e. for e.g. a person works for all 12 months in the year, then 30 days leave will be credited to his/her account on 1 st January of the following year, however if a person has worked for only 10 months during a year and has been on unauthorized unpaid leave for 2 months in that year, then in such case only 25 days leave will be credited to his/her account. 28. Which Leave should I apply during bandh/strike? A. One can apply for Casual Leave during bandh/strike. 29. Can special leave be granted during bandh/strike? A) There is no provision for granting special leave for bandh/strike period. 30. I do not have any Casual Leave balance. How do I apply for leave due to the bandh/strike? A. As a special case, one day s Privilege Leave will be debited for this absence Can I carry forward or accumulate Casual Leave? A) Casual Leave is non-cumulative and the balance Casual Leave lapses at the end of the year i.e. 31 st December. 32. By which date should the leave encashment request reach Payroll so that it gets encashed in the same month s salary? Details should reach Payroll by 15 th of that particular month. 33. Tuesday is a notified holiday. Can I take Monday and Wednesday as Casual Leave? 4

5 A. If Casual Leave is taken on Monday and Wednesday, Tuesday will also be considered as a Casual Leave. You cannot prefix and suffix a holiday. 34. How many times can I avail Privilege Leave in a year? You may avail Privilege Leave on not more than 3 occasions in a year. 5
