2 GROUP INCOME PROTECTION WORKPLACE RECOVERY 2 WHY IS EARLY NOTIFICATION SO IMPORTANT? We believe that the longer an individual is off work, the more difficult it is for them to return. This is particularly the case with mental health conditions. Unfortunately as time goes on, there is a greater chance that financial and other social worries will worsen their condition. Employees suffering from other conditions can benefit also. For example, we can be successful with musculoskeletal problems such as back pain, arthritis, workplace and sports injuries. Mental health and musculoskeletal conditions alone account for most of our notifications, and we help many others besides. From our experience, the earlier we are notified about an employee s absence, the greater the likelihood for them to return to work sooner.

IT S A WIN, WIN SITUATION FOR EVERYONE WHEN YOU NOTIFY US EARLY: Where appropriate we can quickly provide specialist independent return to work therapy and support that s been successfully developed. For mental health conditions, we ve found that providing psychological therapies based on the individuals needs can be very successful, particularly when it s applied early. We have partnered with a third-party provider who is able to provide a range of psychological therapies without delay, avoiding the long waits that could be otherwise experienced. For musculoskeletal problems, we ve found our early assessment and fast-track physiotherapy can often help solve the problem. YOU WIN because it can help your employees return to work quicker and you can get 5% cashback. YOUR EMPLOYEES WIN because earlier therapy means they are more likely to recover quicker. WE ALL WIN because fewer claims usually means lower premiums, a cash bonus and a more productive workforce.

4 GROUP INCOME PROTECTION WORKPLACE RECOVERY 4 HOW THE EARLY NOTIFICATION BONUS WORKS. We recognise that sometimes you may need to change your processes so you can let us know about your absent employees quickly. That s why we ve taken the initiative to incentivise eligible employers that insure 250 or more employees, and give them the opportunity to get 5% cashback. There is no limit to the amount we pay. We ve already paid out over 5 million in cashback early notification bonuses on Group Income Protection premiums, helping employers lower their costs as well as fund other initiatives. FIVE SIMPLE STEPS. Once enrolled, we ll work with you to help put processes in place and explain the notification procedure. We ll send you a monthly reminder , so you notify us about at least 80% of your long-term absences. You ll let us know about your long-term absences within the time specified for your scheme. (See page 6 for absence notification requirements). At the end of the bonus period, we ll ask you to confirm that you ve told us about all relevant absences. If you qualify, we ll pay you a bonus of up to 5% of the policy premium. This will exclude any medical loading premiums and time on risk charges.

5 GROUP INCOME PROTECTION WORKPLACE RECOVERY 5 WHEN WILL THE BONUS BE PAID? Your early notification bonus is assessed against all claims you notify us of, whose date of first absence occurs in the previous 12 months. For example, if your renewal date was 1 May 2017, we ll assess all claims whose date of first absence occurred between 1 May 2016 and 30 April This means that we ll make our assessment of whether you ve met the bonus approximately 12 weeks after the bonus period ends, to allow you enough time to notify us of any absences that occurred in that period. Normally, the bonus will be paid within one month of completing our assessment. The bonus period will vary according to how many employees you are insuring: If you insure 500 employees or more, your bonus period will be annual and run from the policy start date until the first annual renewal date, and then annually thereafter. If you insure between 250 and 499 employees, the bonus period will be for two years. This will run from the policy start date until the unit rate guarantee expiry date and every two years thereafter. The cashback terms may be reviewed or withdrawn at the end of each bonus period, or if the membership changes by more than 25%. 6 GROUP INCOME PROTECTION WORKPLACE RECOVERY 6 EARLY NOTIFICATION BONUS TERMS AND CONDITIONS. MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: Your Group Income Protection policy covers 250 or more employees. You send us your completed early notification bonus application form confirming acceptance of the terms and conditions. You should confirm membership within 30 days of the policy start date. The membership will be defined in full years. However, if you join mid-way through the policy year we may be able to start your membership immediately if the next renewal date is more than six months away. There are some instances where you may not be eligible to join this scheme. For example, if there s a captive or pooling arrangement in place, please contact us before applying. Your Group Income Protection policy covers 500 or more employees Your Group Income Protection policy covers between 250 and 499 employees The bonus period runs for one year. The bonus period runs for two years. ABSENCE NOTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: You need to complete and send to us an absence notification form. CAUSE OF ABSENCE NOTIFICATION REQUIREMENT You will only be eligible for early notification bonus if you inform us of at least 80% of the absent employees within the time periods specified in the table. You will still be eligible for early notification bonus if you ve had no long-term absences through the bonus period. BONUS TERMS: The bonus is 5% of your basic annual group income protection premium. This does not include any extra amounts you pay for medical loadings, time-on-risk charges or sweep-up account charges. We must be informed of all relevant absences within the specified timescales. Your policy is insured with us at least six weeks after the end of the bonus period. You will only receive the bonus if all outstanding premiums have been paid and your account is up to date. At the end of the bonus period, you need to provide us details of any outstanding absences or confirm there are no more absences. If you inform us of any further absences that relate to the earlier bonus period, once we have paid out the early notification bonus where necessary, we reserve the right to reclaim any overpaid bonus. The early notification bonus scheme may be reviewed or withdrawn at the end of each bonus period. If the policy membership reduces below 250 employees, we reserve the right to withdraw the early notification bonus at any time. Where the absence is due to a mental health condition, musculoskeletal condition or cancer. All other absences. We need to be informed of all employees we re covering, who are continuously absent for four weeks or more, by the sixth week of absence.
