1 CHECKLIST AT TIME OF DEATH Contact funeral home Ask funeral home director to help you get 10 copies of death certificate You may also get death certificates from the county clerk s office Check and take care of decedent s home and pets Make sure to put valuables in a safe place Keep the house locked if no one is home Contact decedent s employer Speak with human resources department so they can provide you with any paperwork necessary Contact attorney to review will or probate process Contact Financial Advisor Make a list of any regular bills to have as a reminder and automatic payment plans Utility bills Long term debts Rental Fees Property tax bills Insurance bills Credit card and Debit card bills Contact Post Office to forward any mail if necessary Cancel Services that are no longer needed (phones, cable, internet) *Make sure to keep a note of all calls you make with the date and time. Fortunately, many of the arrangements can be made ahead of time, which will decrease the burden on those left behind. Use the checklist below to make sure that your final wishes are carried out.
