2 Notions which are often mixed up: 2 A review of a strategy should not be confused with revision of a strategy (although a revision can be based on a review); A review of a strategy should not be confused with a participatory process to a strategy (although participation can be based on and/or contribute to some types of reviews) An internal review of a strategy (made by bodies of the strategies) should not be confused with a domestic review (made by bodies of the country); some domestic reviews of a strategy are external reviews A policy review or assessment (made by bodies other than the administration) should not be confused with a policy monitoring (made by the administration) but should use the results of policy- monitoring; A full review of a strategy should not be limited to policy assessment but should also cover trends and priority assessment of the present based on ISDs as well as long term SD scenarios of the future

12 CONCLUSION: One domestic type of SDS review is not enough Methodical SD Policy monitoring must be done at both administrative and independent levels; 2. To review all aspect of the situation confronted to the SD challenges, SD policy monitoring must be completed by - Assessment on existing SD priorities and trends - Evaluation of future LT SD backcasting scenarios 3. Domestic internal review of the SDS must be completed by domestic external review of the SDS 4. These types of reviews are mutually supportive and used by Governments and democratic participatory processes such as parliamentary reviews, stakeholder & population consultations,
