Building A Culture Of Philanthropy 1. Fundraising 2. Volunteer Leadership 3. Staff and Infrastructure
4 Elements To Funding Growth 1. Acquire donors 2. Retain and renew them 3. Upgrade donors 4. Secure a planned gift to perpetuate the donor s support into the future
What is Planned Giving?
Planned giving: Is a major gift made in lifetime or at death as part of a donor s overall financial and estate planning. Enables donors to make larger gifts than they could make from their income alone. Is about relationships, not technical tax planning expertise. Is an opportunity to tap into the $41 trillion intergenerational wealth transfer forecast by 2050.* *
Planned giving is NOT: A trade-off for present fundraising efforts. It elevates current conversations with donors, resulting in larger blended gifts. We need all wheels turning. Limited to deferred revenue.

Donor benefits Maximize giving; satisfaction of investing in a worthy cause Tax savings Income Capital gains Estate/gift Combine charitable goals with financial planning
Benefits To The Organization Planned gifts tend to be large gifts May be used as a basis for future financial planning Often leads to increased future gifts through donor s additional estate and charitable planning Frequently have promotional value
Start simple. Layer as we go. Stock gifts Bequests Retirement plans, IRA distributions
So Now What? 1. Case for Support: link to Strategic Plan 2. Education Leadership, Board, staff Annual Meeting 2015: Funding Our Future 3. Gift Acceptance Policy Board-approved 4. Marketing Develop prospect list Design Bequest Intention Form Promote planned giving through donor testimonials; leverage existing materials S U M M E R S E A R C H
