The following regulations set out your financial obligations to YSJU. Tuition Fee liability When you accept the offer of a place you make a contractual obligation to pay the fees charged by YSJU for the delivery of that programme. You may also be charged other costs specified for optional elements of your programme of study however there will be no additional mandatory costs. You are personally responsible for the fees, even if payment will be made by someone else such as Student Finance England (SFE), a relative or a sponsor. YSJU reserves the right to: discontinue your programme of study if you do not pay tuition fees by the dates specified. require you to pay a proportion of tuition fees if you leave during the academic year. stop you from re-enrolling to continue a programme of study if you have outstanding tuition fee debts for that programme. refuse to admit you to a degree ceremony or release your degree certificate or any letter of confirmation of award until any tuition fee debt is paid. Payment of Tuition Fees Tuition Fee Loan UK/EU students on a designated undergraduate or PGCE programme may be eligible for a tuition fee loan from their funding body such as Student Finance England. You are responsible for entering the correct course and fee information when applying for support. Applications for support must be made in a timely manner. The tuition fee loan will be paid directly to YSJU. Students studying a Masters degree programme may be eligible for a post graduate loan from their funding body ie Student Finance England. The loan will be paid directly to the student. Page 1 of 5

2 Tuition Fees Payment Tuition fees can be paid in full by cash/cheque/debit/credit card or you can pay by debit /credit card, in two equal instalments, one at enrolment and the second on 8 h January (Students commencing studies in January the second instalment will be collected on 7 th May 2018) Intercalation (suspension of studies) When fees have been received prior to a period of intercalation, YSJU reserves the right to retain the funds to be set against fees due after your return. Late Payment of Tuition Fees The University will try to accommodate the needs of its students wherever reasonable. If you are having problems paying tuition fees, or any other monies owing, it is essential that you contact the University as soon as possible to discuss any alternatives. If you do not comply with these regulations you will be asked to attend meetings at the Finance Office to discuss your financial position. If you have outstanding debt from the previous/current academic year you will be required to attend a Student Finance Review Panel meeting with the Deputy Director of Finance, the Registrar, and the Head of Student Services (or their nominees). Evidence will be presented by Finance staff. You may be supported by a friend at the meeting. A decision will still be made if you do not attend. Arrangements will be made for students who study away from York. The actions which may be taken by the Panel are: Re-negotiation of an achievable payment plan Discontinuation of programme Enforced intercalation until any tuition fee debt to YSJU has been paid or brought to an agreed manageable level. This may be intercalation from mid-year or refusal to permit re-enrolment Refusal of permission to attend graduation and to release degree certificate and transcript until any tuition fee debt to YSJU has been paid or brought to an agreed manageable level. Any other action deemed appropriate by the Panel You will be notified in writing of the outcome and timing of the implementation of the decision. If you are not happy, you may propose an alternative plan to the Executive Director of Finance, whose decision is final. We reserve the right to engage a debt collection company to chase outstanding debt and to add associated legal costs. Deposits All International applicants to the University must pay a 50% deposit before they can be issued with an unconditional offer of a place to study unless they are a sponsored student or paying through US, Canadian or Norwegian state loans. Once a student has made a deposit there will be a 14 day cooling off period from the date the payment is made when the deposit may be repaid in full. A deposit will be returned in full if a Tier 4 visa has been refused or if the student fails to meet the conditions attached to their offer. Refunds will not be given if the visa is rejected on the grounds of a fraudulent application or if the University is unable to legitimately identify the source of funds. 3 Withdrawing From Study If you withdraw from your studies part way through the academic year you will be charged according to the tables below. The official withdrawal date will be recorded as the last date of attendance, or submission of work or for research students, the last point of academic contact. YSJ bursaries and fee waivers will be allocated pro rata to tuition fees in line with the details below. For example an amount paid by credit card will be refunded to the same credit card. Research Students tuition fees will be refunded pro rata on a monthly basis from the last point of academic contact. Passing Information to the Home Office YSJU will inform the Home Office and the relevant Embassy or High Commission regarding any student who is subject to immigration control and: withdraws from their course of study is terminated from their course of study transfers to another Higher Education Institution does not enrol on their course by the last day of enrolment given for their course / entry point. Accommodation Fees You will be notified of your accommodation charges at the start of the academic year. For your convenience we offer you the option of paying for your accommodation by direct debit in 3 instalments or by credit or debit card. On confirming acceptance of your accommodation you will be asked to provide the bank details of your nominated account or relevant card details. The payments will be collected on 12 th October 2016, 8 th January 2017 and 16th April If accommodation fees remain unpaid and you have not made an agreement to pay, or your arrangement to pay fails, administration charges may be raised according to the following table. 5 If accommodation fees remain outstanding longer than this, you may be required to appear before the Student Finance Review Panel, which reserves the right to begin eviction proceedings. No student with an outstanding debt is permitted to apply for YSJU managed accommodation. We reserve the right to engage a debt collection company to chase outstanding debt and to add associated legal costs. Accommodation Deposit You are required to pay a 150 non-returnable 1 deposit. This must be paid when you accept your accommodation. This amount will be deducted from your first instalment. Withdrawing from accommodation If you withdraw from YSJU or are released from your accommodation contract for any other reason you will be charged a calendar month s rent from the date you hand in your keys. If you have already paid your accommodation in full, we will refund you the difference. 1 The deposit will be returned to students who cannot obtain a visa or where they fail to obtain the required results to progress Page 5 of 5
