PETITIONS AND DEPUTATIONS 2018-8 - 1 MOVED by Reeve Emon, Councillor Sidney THAT representatives from Renfrew Minor Ball appear before Council to receive a cheque for their Volunteer Parking Services during the recently held Sawtech Log and Rural Expo. - CARRIED - Reeve Emon was pleased to present a cheque in the amount of $3,000 to Susan Sarsfield, President of Renfrew Minor Baseball. The group did a great job of assisting with gate/parking support during the recently held Sawtech event and were excellent ambassadors for the Town. It proved to be a very successful partnership. Ms. Sarsfield introduced the rest of her group of volunteers and thanked the Town for the money which will be used to purchase new uniforms. Mayor Eady acknowledged Reeve Emon for all of his efforts in helping to organize and make Sawtech the success it was. Deputy Clerk Charkavi, Councillor Windle and Recreation Department Staff were also thanked for their hard work. IV. COMMUNICATIONS 2018-8 - 3 MOVED by Councillor Sidney, Councillor Coulas THAT the communication from the Renfrew BIA, dated August 10, 2018, requesting the use of the Town Hall Parking Lot on Saturday, September 1, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m., for their Touch a Truck, Meet a Machine event, organized to encourage visitors downtown, be received and approved. 2018-8 - 4 MOVED by Councillor Jamieson, Councillor Coulas - CARRIED - THAT the communication from the Renfrew Collegiate Institute (RCI), dated July 3, 2018, requesting the closure of Queen Street South, behind the Technical Education wing, on September 4, 2018, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., to host a street party to celebrate the students return for another school year, be received and approved. - CARRIED - Concerns were raised concerning the possible impact upon a resident of Queen Street South whose home is in close proximity to the proposed event location. It was suggested that RCI be asked to take measures towards ensuring that the event be partitioned in a manner that would avoid unnecessary conflict with the neighbouring residential homes. 2018-8 - 5 MOVED by Councillor Jamieson, Councillor Windle THAT the communication from the Renfrew Agricultural Society, dated August 2, 2018, requesting the assistance of the Renfrew Firefighters during the Renfrew Fair s Demolition Derby, to be held on September 5, 2018, be received and approved; and FURTHER THAT the cost of this service be expensed under Grants to Organizations for financial recording purposes. 2018-8 - 6 MOVED by Councillor Sidney, Councillor Windle - CARRIED - THAT the letter from C. Godard, dated July 19 th, 2018, offering to sponsor the planting of a Vimy Oak in Low Square in honour and remembrance of a family member (and the thousands of other Canadian Soldiers who lost their lives in war), be received and referred to the Parks & Recreation Committee. - CARRIED - VI. REPORTS cont d 2018-8 - 14 MOVED by Reeve Emon, Councillor Coulas THAT Director Asselin be heard before Council to provide an update on the Downtown Reconstruction Project. - CARRIED - Director Asselin was pleased to report that the Downtown Reconstruction Project remains on schedule and on budget. The relining of the sanitary is now complete and new sanitary and laterals are being installed where relining was not possible. The new street lights are being installed as well as tree wells and other streetscape features. The concrete crew is returning and its anticipated that the section of roadway between Munroe and Railway will have completed sidewalks and be paved by mid-september. Regular communications are being sent out to stakeholders and the community and everyone s patience and understanding has been much appreciated. The general contractor, BEI, received positive feedback from Council for their great work in minimizing the impacts of the construction and assisting business owners, residents and visitors where possible. VII. BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS 2018-8 - 15 MOVED by Councillor Windle, Reeve Emon THAT the Renfrew Public Library s 2017 Annual Report to the Community, be received. - CARRIED - VIII. BY-LAWS By-Law No. 56-2018 was given three readings and passed. IX. NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS X. CLOSED SESSION 2018-8 - 16 MOVED by Reeve Emon, Councillor Sidney THAT Renfrew Town Council convene in Closed Session for the following matters: Pursuant to Section 239 2(c) of the Municipal Act, 2001 ~ a proposed or pending acquisition of land by the municipality or local board. More specifically as it relates to the property located adjacent to the Municipal Garage. - CARRIED - Council convened in Closed Session at 7:50 p.m.
