VALUE-ADDED MARKETING PUT CUSTOMERS IN CONTROL WHILE IMPROVING PROFITS Carrier customers are sophisticated. They understand technology and they expect superior value for their investments. That s why Carrier s comprehensive selection of extended warranties is designed to provide you with the kind of value-added difference your customers require. Carrier s full line of top-quality indoor comfort equipment will differentiate you from other dealers and our extended warranty programs will help you establish long-term relationships. These types of business relationships improve your add-on and service business. Since these warranties are risk-free to your customers, you should enjoy overwhelming acceptance each time you present these exciting offers. Our warranty options under the Customer Protection Plan include both comprehensive Parts & Labor coverage, as well as Parts Only warranties that cover specific parts or major components. Plus, we have expanded our offerings to include more coverage periods. So now, virtually all Carrier residential equipment is covered. Here is a list of the available warranty programs: CUSTOMER PROTECTION PLAN Labor Only 2nd Year Labor Only 2nd thru 5th Year Labor Only 2nd thru 5th Year Compressor Labor Only 2nd thru 10th Year Compressor Labor Only Parts & Labor 2nd thru 10th Year Labor with 6th thru 10th Year Parts Parts Only 6th thru 10th Year Parts Only 6th thru 10th Year Compressor Parts Only Thru 20th Year Heat Exchanger Offering any one or several of these warranty programs increases the confidence that your customers have in the equipment they are purchasing. In addition, you have opened the door for additional sales and continued contact with that homeowner. That s why we encourage you to make these warranties a part of each sales call. THE CARRIER CUSTOMER PROTECTION PLAN TYPES OF WARRANTY COVERAGE AGeneral Overview The Customer Protection Plan includes three types of warranties: Labor Only, Parts & Labor and Parts Only. All types of warranties should be offered at the time of the equipment sale. For homeowners who do not purchase warranty coverage when the equipment is installed, you may contact them in the 10th or 11th month and remind them that their factory coverage is about to expire and that they are still eligible for the Parts & Labor or the Parts Only warranties. Additionally, all of these coverages may be purchased by the customer up to five years from the date of start-up. (Equipment installed more than one year before the warranty purchase must be accompanied by a satisfactory equipment inspection report, which is included in the back of this book.) These features enable you to stay in touch with homeowners while giving you the opportunity to build lasting, profitable relationships with your customers. Regular maintenance is not included as part of the Customer Protection Plan warranties. That s why we, at Carrier, strongly recommend that you offer your customer a service agreement during the sales call. This is an opportunity for you to ensure that you receive all of your customer s service business. The Parts & Labor coverage begins one year after the start-up date of the equipment (when the unit is placed, piped, wired and in condition to operate with final wiring, thermostat and utility connection). These warranties cover parts and/or labor on eligible Carrier indoor comfort equipment used in owner-occupied applications. Compressor labor only options give your customers even more flexibility. Combined with a standard five-year factory warranty, the plan provides your customers with long-term protection. That means consistent indoor weather and customer satisfaction. These Parts & Labor warranties offer coverage that is difficult not to accept, making them exceptionally effective in boosting sales. As an added benefit, the Parts & Labor warranties are transferable to subsequent owners at no cost while the equipment is located at the original installation site. To ensure that your business is the first heating and cooling dealership that the homeowner calls, Carrier prints your business name on the warranty contract. These warranty programs offer excellent opportunities to lock in your relationship with the customer, since only you are eligible to repair the equipment. The Parts Only warranty options under the Customer Protection Plan are designed to cover specific parts and major components of indoor weather equipment. The Parts Only warranties help to minimize out-of-pocket expenses and the inconvenience of unexpected breakdowns. These warranties remain in effect, with no need to transfer to subsequent owners, adding to the value of the home or the building, as long as the system remains in its original location and configuration. 2

GENERAL GUIDELINES PARTS & LABOR WARRANTIES Parts & Labor warranties are applicable on eligible equipment used in owneroccupied installations. Parts & Labor coverage must be offered to the customer and registered within the first five years from the start-up date of the covered equipment. The start-up date is defined as when the unit is placed, piped, wired and in condition to operate with final wiring, thermostat, and utility connection. The coverage period of any warranty begins and expires based on the original equipment start-up date, even if the warranty is purchased at a later time. Equipment installed more than one year before the warranty purchase must be inspected, all costs at the customers expense, to be eligible for the Parts & Labor coverage. An Inspection Report (refer to the last page of this booklet) showing proof of periodic maintenance and operable condition must be sent to Contract Administration with the Extended Warranty Registration Form. Inspection Reports are subject to audit to confirm equipment condition and eligibility. Registrations missing the Inspection Report will be returned to the dealer. Equipment registered within the first year does not require inspection. There is a 90-day waiting period from the warranty purchase date for coverage to become effective on equipment installed more than one year prior. This means that breakdowns that occur within these 90 days cannot beclaimed or reimbursed. Therefore, dealer warranted coverage is required for the first 90 days following the warranty purchase. Coverage under the Parts & Labor warranties is limited to the failed part only. Parts & Labor warranties purchased for split system air conditioners, heat pumps or 0- to 5-ton packaged products do not cover compressor parts. These warranties do, however, cover compressor labor. Compressor parts only coverage may be obtained through the Parts Only program. Only the dealer registered on the Parts & Labor warranty is eligible to repair the equipment. Services rendered by any other dealer/contractor will not be covered under this warranty. Any changes in the registered dealer must be authorized in advance and in writing by your distributor. The servicing dealer/contractor must provide a 60-day warranty on repair labor. This does not apply if another defective part causes a breakdown. Parts & Labor warranties do not cover inspection services or routine preventative maintenance. Equipment failure resulting from a lack of maintenance will not be covered by these warranties. The established list of equipment repair times in this booklet is to be used when calculating your claim reimbursement. Claims that exceed these standard repair times will be adjusted to the allowable time by Contract Administration. Additional limitations and exclusions may apply. Contact your distributor for complete details. Contact your distributor for eligible models and pricing. 3

BECOME A CARRIER WARRANTY PROGRAM PARTICIPANT THREE SIMPLE STEPS Qualifying for Parts & Labor Protection Qualifying is easy under the Parts & Labor warranties. To participate, you must have your distributor s approval. Just follow the simple steps below: 1Fill out the Contractor/Dealer Sign-Up Form (page 11), which asks for information about your company. 2Send the Sign-Up Form to your distributor for processing. The distributor will review your application and determine if your company meets the minimum requirements to participate in this plan. These requirements include: A financially-sound business that demonstrates good customer relations and above-average HVAC installation and service techniques. Participation in a distributorsupplied parts stocking program for Carrier brand products. A service department that is organized to handle service contracts and actively participates in distributor-offered service training programs on Carrier brand products. Dealer warranted first-year coverage on labor and dealer warranted coverage for the first 90 days following a warranty purchase on equipment installed over one year ago. Agreement to participate in reasonable audit procedures at the discretion of Carrier Corporation to determine the validity of claims, and the agreement to allow Carrier Corporation to directly solicit customer satisfaction comments. A labor rate that is consistent with and reasonable for your geographical area. The labor rate is to be the street rate for your area, not the flat rate. 3Upon qualification, your distributor will provide you with complete information and any materials you need to successfully sell Parts & Labor warranties. A dealer s participation in this program may be suspended or revoked at any time if compliance with the minimum requirements is not met. Eligible Equipment Virtually all equipment is eligible for coverage under the Parts & Labor warranties. See the equipment eligibility table on the following page for types of equipment covered. Contact your distributor for a listing of eligible model numbers and applicable pricing. Parts & Labor warranties are offered on eligible Carrier equipment installed in owneroccupied applications. Only the Carrier components of any unit are covered under this program. A Carrier ARI-certified matching furnace coil or fan coil is required for split system air conditioning installations to be eligible for coverage under this warranty, except for the air conditioning/ furnace system combination. This combination can be used with an outside manufactured furnace coil, however, only the Carrier brand equipment will be covered under the program. All coils, even if existing and not eligible for coverage, must be listed and registered. A Carrier manufactured ARIcertified matching furnace coil or fan coil is required for all split system heat pump installations (system or a la carte coverages) to be eligible for coverage under this warranty. Carrier thermostats, electronic air cleaners, humidifiers, strip heaters and TXVs can be covered at no additional cost (and must be listed at the time of registration) when used in any of the eligible installations described in this booklet. Eligible installations include 0- to 5-ton packaged products, furnaces, boilers or any residential system. To qualify as a system purchase, all equipment must be Carrier brand and it must be installed at the same time, except when using an independent coil with an air conditioning/furnace system as noted above. Again, the coil will not be covered under this warranty program. 4

SELL WARRANTIES TO ALL OF YOUR CUSTOMERS REGISTER THE WARRANTY Registering Your Customers Equipment After qualifying for participation in the Parts & Labor warranty program, you may begin selling warranties to your customers. All equipment covered under these warranties must be registered with Contract Administration. When you install an eligible unit, accessory or system, follow the easy steps below to register the equipment. Remember that Carrier thermostats, electronic air cleaners, humidifiers, strip heaters and TXVs can be included on the registration at no additional charge when registered with eligible equipment. Make sure the information on the Extended Warranty Registration Form is clearly printed or typed. To speed up the processing, be sure that all of the information on the form is complete and correct. EXTENDED WARRANTY Registration Form This form is not the warranty certificate. Certificate will be mailed to equipment owner. Please note that only the dealer registered on the warranty is eligible to repair the equipment. Any changes in the registered dealer must be authorized in advance and in writing by your distributor. Additional limitations and exclusions may apply. Filling Out the Registration Form 1To fill out the Extended Warranty Registration Form (available from your distributor), you will need the following information: Dealer and distributor ID numbers (available from your distributor; must be completed to process registration) Date of warranty purchase Equipment owner s name, address and phone number Complete model number(s), complete serial number(s) and start-up date of equipment Dist. Registrations for equipment installed more than one year before the warranty purchase that are not accompanied by an Inspection Report will be returned to the dealer. 4A letter explaining the warranty coverage will be mailed, along with the Warranty Certificate, directly to the customer by Contract Administration. At this point, the equipment is now registered and eligible for coverage under the Parts & Labor Customer Protection Plan. If the equipment covered under this plan needs repair, you should provide the required parts and labor to the customer at no cost and submit a claim to Contract Administration for reimbursement. THEY RE COVERED AND YOU RE THE HERO FILING THE CLAIMS Filing Warranty Claims If an eligible product covered under a Parts & Labor warranty needs repair, handle it as you would any other service call. The only difference is that Carrier Corpor-ation, not the customer, will pay the bill. Claims under the Parts & Labor program are submitted on a Claim Form. Filling Out the Claim Form 1Fill out the Claim Form for Parts & Labor warranties completely. A description of work performed must be included in the bottom section of the form. Make sure the information on the Claim Form is clearly printed or typed and that the information is complete and correct in order to speed up the reimbursement process. Forms are available from your distributor. 2Separate the copies of the Claim Form and give/send to the appropriate party as instructed by your distributor. 3Attach the service work-order to the original copy of the claim. 4The original copy of the Claim Form and work-order must be submitted within 60 days of the service work-order completion date. Claims received after 60 days will not be honored. We reserve the right to audit all claims to confirm validity, including contacting the customer. 7

REIMBURSEMENT CARRIER STANDS BEHIND YOU Claiming and Reimbursement Reminders Reimbursements are based on the actual costs to the contractor/dealer rather than at a list or master price. Guidelines on the parts and labor payment allowances are as follows: Carrier-supplied parts for use on eligible products can be claimed for reimbursement at the contractor s/dealer s actual cost, plus a normal mark-up of up to 70% not to exceed $100. In-warranty compressors do not qualify for mark-up, but do qualify for a $50 In-warranty Compressor Handling Allowance. In-warranty compressor replacements must be obtained from your distributor. Emergency, non-carrier parts purchased for an eligible product can be claimed for reimbursement at the con-tractor s/dealer s cost, plus a normal mark-up of up to 50%. Non-Carrier parts may be used only in emergency instances where unacceptable delays would result from Carrier parts being unavailable within a reasonable time frame. Puron refrigerant can be claimed at the rate of $9.00 a pound and R-22 refrigerant can be claimed at the rate of $3.00 a pound, both with the maximum allowable amount on any claim being the recommended system charge. To encourage reclaiming, you are allowed an additional half hour of labor if a signed job ticket or other proof of reclaiming is included with the claim. **We will only reimburse refrigerant for up to the recommended system charge in order to en-courage responsible charging procedures and to eliminate excessive refrigerant use. Labor claims will be paid at the contractor s/dealer s registered rate. Drive-up charges may not exceed half of the labor rate. Please notify your distributor when your labor rate changes, since it is their responsibility to provide Contract Administration with that information. The labor rate to be used is the street rate for your area, not the flat rate. Should any unusual problems be encountered that would cause higher than normal labor hours, they should be fully explained on the Claim Form. Overtime rates will not be accepted, nor will more than one service technician be covered at the repair site. DOA compressors are not eligible for coverage and must be applied for credit through Warranty Administration. Maximum allowable repair times that can be claimed for repairs are listed on page 10. Claims that exceed the listed standard repair times will be adjusted to the allowable time by Contract Administration. All labor hours are paid at the dealers registered rate. The reimbursement for any repair or replacement parts covered by a Carrier Service Manager s Bulletin (SMB) shall be governed by the SMB, which shall take precedence over this extended warranty. State or local sales tax on parts may be reimbursed where applicable. Freight or handling charges will not be reimbursed. Service provided within the dealer s normal servicing area, generally a 25-mile radius, is covered. Trip or mileage beyond this will not be reimbursed. Carrier will not be responsible for failure to start due to voltage conditions, blown fuses, open circuit breakers or other damages due to the inadequacy or interruption of electrical service. Damage or repairs needed as a consequence of any misapplication, abuse, improper servicing, unauthorized alteration or improper operation will not be covered. Carrier will not reimburse repair of damage that occurs as a result of floods, wind, fires, lightning, accidents, corrosive atmosphere or other conditions beyond the control of Carrier. 8

GENERAL GUIDELINES PARTS ONLY WARRANTIES The Parts Only warranties must be offered to the customer and registered within the first five years from the start-up date of the covered equipment. The start-up date is defined as when the unit is placed, piped, wired, and in condition to operate with final wiring, thermostat, and utility connection. The coverage period of any warranty begins and expires based on the original equipment start-up date, even if the warranty is purchased at a later time. Equipment installed more than one year before the warranty purchase must be inspected, all costs at the customers expense, to be eligible for the Parts Only warranties. An Inspection Report (refer to the last page of this booklet) showing proof of periodic maintenance and operable condition must be sent to your distributor with the Extended Warranty Registration Form. This means that breakdowns that occur within these 90 days cannot be claimed or reimbursed. Therefore, dealer warranted coverage is required for the first 90 days following the warranty purchase. Coverage under the Parts Only warranties is limited to the failed part of major components only. Parts are defined as any operating component of a covered product, excluding compressors and heat exchangers. Compressors and heat exchangers are defined as major components and have separate, specific coverage options. Parts Only warranties do not cover inspection services or routine preventative maintenance outlined in the installation and servicing in-structions or owner s manual, such as coil cleaning, filter cleaning and/or replacement and lubrication. Carrier encourages you to offer these services to the customer. Equipment failure resulting from lack of maintenance will not be covered under these warranties. More than one option may be purchased; however, this may result in overlapping coverage. Under no circumstances will more than one claim be allowed for a given covered failure, including failures which may be covered under a Parts & Labor warranty. The reimbursement for any repair or parts replacement may be covered by a Carrier service policy, which shall take precedence over this extended warranty. This warranty does not apply to any parts not supplied or designated by Carrier. Only components that are not a part of the registered unit(s) are covered. Items such as line sets, etc., are not covered. This warranty does not cover any labor costs incurred for examining, repairing, removing, installing, shipping, servicing or handling of either defective or replacement parts. Labor allowances may be allowed where the cost of repair is less than the cost of replacement. In the case of a failed condenser coil, Carrier will allow for either repair or replacement of the part, whichever is most advantageous. Parts Only warranties do not allow for a parts mark-up. A dealer s participation in this program may be suspended or revoked at any time if compliance with the guidelines and other program requirements are not met. 13

REGISTER THE WARRANTY WE HAVE THE PARTS COVERED Eligible Equipment Virtually all equipment is eligible for coverage under the Parts Only warranties. See the equipment eligibility table on page 16 for types of equipment covered. Contact your distributor for a listing of eligible model numbers and applicable pricing. Parts Only warranties are available on eligible Carrier equipment installed in an owner-occupied application. Only the Carrier brand components of a system are covered under this program. A Carrier ARI-certified matching furnace coil or fan coil is required for all split system air conditioning installations to be eligible for coverage under this warranty, except for the air conditioning/ furnace system combination. This combination can be used with an outside manufactured furnace coil, however, only the Carrier equipment will be covered. All coils, even if existing and not eligible for coverage, must be listed and registered. A Carrier manufactured ARIcertified matching furnace coil or fan coil is required for all split system heat pump installations (system or a la carte coverages) to be eligible for coverage under this warranty. Carrier thermostats, electronic air cleaners, humidifiers, strip heaters and TXVs can be covered at no extra cost (but must be listed at time of registration) when used in any of the eligible installations described in this booklet. Eligible installations include 0- to 5-ton packaged products, furnaces, boilers, or any residential system. To qualify for a system purchase, all equipment must be Carrier brand and must be installed at the same time, except where noted above, in using an independent coil with the air conditioning/furnace system. Again, only the Carrier brand equipment will be covered. Registering Your Customers Equipment All equipment covered under a Parts Only warranty must be registered by your distributor with Warranty Admini-stration on the Extended Warranty Registration Form (see page 6). Make sure the information on this form is clearly printed or typed. To speed the process along, be sure that all of the information on the form is complete and correct. When you install an eligible unit, accessory or system, follow the easy steps below to register the equipment. Filling Out the Registration Form 1 Fill out a Extended Warranty Registration Form (available from your distributor), completely with the following information: Dealer and distributor ID numbers (available from your distributor; must be completed to process registration) Date of warranty purchase Equipment owner s name, address and phone number Complete model number(s), complete serial number(s) and start-up date of equipment Type of coverage selected Dealer s name, address and phone number NOTE: List only one system per registration form. 2 If the equipment being registered was installed more than one year ago, attach an Inspection Report to the Registration Form showing proof of periodic maintenance and showing the unit to be well-maintained and operable. (Refer to page 17 for the Inspection Report you need to complete and submit.) Registrations for equipment installed more than one year before the warranty purchase that are not accompanied by an Inspection Report will be returned to the dealer. 3Send all copies of the com-pleted form to your distributor. They will return two copies of the Registration Form and a Warranty Certificate to you. Keep one copy of the Registration Form for your records and forward the original and the Warranty Certificate to your customer. 4The equipment is now registered and eligible for coverage under the Parts Only Customer Protection Plan. If the equipment covered under this plan needs repair, you should provide the required parts to the customer at no cost and submit a claim to your distributor for reimbursement. 14

PARTS WARRANTY CLAIMS Filing Warranty Claims The Service Credit Application Form (SCA) allows for reimbursement of your cost of the replacement component purchased from your distributor. Claims allow for the reimbursement of the cost of a new component or an even exchange. In order to speed up the reimbursement process, make sure the information on the Service Credit Form is clearly printed or typed and that all the information is complete and correct. Filling Out the Claim Form 1 Fill out a Service Credit Application Form completely. Forms are available from your distributor. 2 Send the Service Credit Form to your distributor for processing within 60 days of the service work order completion date. Claims received after 60 days will not be honored. Claiming and Reimbursement Reminders If a failed component is covered under a Carrier service policy, the guidelines of that policy shall take precedence over this extended warranty. Coverage under this warranty will be limited to the failed part only. Only Carrier products installed within the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada are eligible for reimbursement. No reimbursement will be given for electricity or fuel costs or the increase in fuel costs for any reason whatsoever, including additional or unusual use of supplemental electric heat. No claims will be reimbursed for any special indirect or consequential property or commercial damage of any nature whatsoever. Some states do not allow the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation may not apply to you.
