Daily Market Summary: The Market breadth closed negative (0.84x) Market extends gains as positive earnings recorded in most corporate disclosures trigger positive sentiments, thereby placing the index in the green at 0.69% from 0.37% previous close. Consequently, the Year-to-Date(YtD) return rose 60basis points to close at -13.21% as against yesterday close; -13.81%. This performance is above one-month average YTD return at -14.66% as evidence from Relative Strength Index (RSI) which trend northward half way oversold region. In addition, the deals executed grew slightly 0.06% to 3,180.00 as against 3,178. Review of Sectoral Performance The performer sectors lost one to the bears as 3 of 5 sectors closed in the green territory. The industrial sector advanced by 94 basis points to close at 1493.18 from 1479.34 due to a 2.14% gain in DANGCEM which suppressed losses in FIRSTALUM (-9.09%), BETAGLAS (-1.71%) and WAPCO (-1.06). Similarly, consumers goods sector also rose 26 basis points to 750.63 compared to 748.69. The return was upon appreciation in HONYFLOUR (4.35%), DANGFLOUR(2.67%) and NESTLE(2.19%) as against losses in 7 stocks topped by PZ(-7.66%), MCNICHOLS(-7.41%) and UNILEVER(-3.89).
s Daily Equities Market Recap In the same vein, Oil and gas sector advanced by 0.12% to 294.63 from 294.28 upon gain of OANDO by 0.93% in contrast to -4.76% decline in JAPAULOIL. On the negative side, banking and insurance indexes plunged -0.60% and -0.71% as a result of decline in the prices of 5 counters topped by NIGERINS (-7.14%), ETI(-5.04) and NEM(-4.0%) while 8 counters closed in the green topped by FBNH(4.32%), WEMABANK(3.33%) and WAPIC(2.5%).
