COMMUNITY EVENTS UPCOMING EVENTS Kid s Events Kid s Fall Fun Day on October 28 with a magician, face painting and treat bags for kids. Kid s Day on December 9, Santa visited 1 st Ed and brought treats for all the kids and posed for selfies! SCHOLARSHIPS F EBRUARY 1, 2018 is offering graduating high school students the opportunity to receive one of four $1500 scholarships to be used at the college, university, or trade school of their choice. HOLI DAY C LO SIN G S PR ES ID ENTS DAY MONDAY FEBRUARY 19 ANNUAL MEETING APRIL 16, 2018 For our 80 th Annual Meeting, we welcome you, our members, to join us to learn what we accomplished over the past year and what our goals are for the upcoming year. You can also be a part of the democratic process of the credit union by running for the open positions or voting in the election for our Board of Directors. YOUTH MONTH APRIL 2018 Adopt-A-Family Throughout the year, 1st Ed Credit Union staff paid to dress down for one week a quarter and wear flipflops on Fridays in July to raise funds for the Adopta-Family campaign through the Boys & Girls Club of Chambersburg and Shippensburg. Presents were delivered to the club along with wishes for a Merry Christmas to the family. Food Drive 1st Ed Credit Union collected non-perishable food items that were donated to the South Central Community Action Program (SCCAP) Food Pantry in Chambersburg, PA from December 11 30. ICU Day Last year we celebrated ICU Day during the whole week from October 16 20. Our members had a chance to win a daily prize and enjoy treats throughout the week. Indoor Track has partnered with Chambersburg Area School District by securing naming rights of the indoor track at Chambersburg Area Senior High School. We look forward to our growing relationship with our local community! Financial Education continues to educate the youth of our local school districts and in the community by hosting reality fairs, budgeting and retirement classroom presentations for high school students, and saving vs. spending activities for elementary students. Schools that have recently participated include Montessori Academy, Shalom Christian Academy, Scotland Elementary 3 rd grade classes, and The Boys & Girls Club students. Y o u re a V i c t i m o f I d e n t i t y Ta x Fra u d! NOW WHAT? No one expects to be a victim of identity theft. Identity tax fraud is no exception to this. Billions of dollars are put into the hands of criminals who are imposing on your tax return each year. All it takes is a breach of your social security number to steal your identity and file a false tax return, causing you weeks of headaches and misery as you try to correct your return. How will I know if I am a victim? Knowing whether you have been victimized is quite simple. Your return will be rejected. If filing electronically, you will receive a message stating your tax return has already been filed. On the other hand, if you file by mail, your return will be followed by a letter from the IRS stating you have a duplicate return on file. I am a victim of identity tax fraud! What can I do? Once you have discovered that you are the victim of identity tax fraud act quickly. This will help you prevent any further damage to your good name. Following these steps are a good start to regaining your identity: Visit the IRS Reporting Identity Theft webpage to download and complete Form 14039, Identity Theft Affidavit, to flag your account. You may contact the IRS for specialized assistance at 800.908.4490 or reference Publication 5027, Identity Theft Information for Taxpayers. Report the use of your social security number to the FTC by visiting IdentityTheft.gov. This information will be helpful to provide to credit reporting agencies to prove you were a victim of identity theft. Check your credit reports at all three credit reporting agencies. Report any inaccuracies immediately. Continue to monitor your credit file regularly. Over the past two decades, she has found that no two situations are the same, but that kindness goes a long way to produce a happy medium for the member and the institution. While Debbie will admit to not wanting children; having married someone with children, she now has four grandchildren who are the center of her world. When she isn t spending time with the grandkids, she can be found at flea markets and antique shops searching for treasures to decorate her home.
